Gearing up for game day

With less than 48 hours until game time, preparations at Commonwealth Stadium are in full swing.

Law enforcement, traffic engineers, and emergency personnel are also gearing up for the University of Kentucky season opener.

"No matter where you are, where you choose to celebrate or be before, during, and after the game...remember that you're responsible for your actions and your safety," says Chief Ronnie Baston, with Lexington Police.

Lexington police will have extra enforcement on hand to crack down on underage drinking and over consumption of alcohol.

Police will also be making sure that drivers do not park on any lawns or disrupt the peace in the neighborhoods surrounding campus.

"In terms of the way we treat the neighborhoods and the people that live here. It's our community as well. We all live here. So we want to make sure we leave it the way he found it. And I would ask people in terms of trash and the things that you haul in,make sure you haul it out," says Mitch Barnhart, the Athletic Director for the University of Kentucky.

With an estimated 50,000 fans expected to fill the stadium come Saturday night, traffic will be inevitable.

"Those that live in the neighborhood should plan if they need to travel, or take a trip to the mall, to take that into account because we will have very traffic flow," adds Chief Baston.

You won't be allowed to travel inside the stadium with any backpacks, or large bags. Whatever you do bring in will be subject to search.
