Morehead adds LSU transfer

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Corban Collins, who spent the 2012-13 season at LSU, has signed an athletic scholarship agreement with the Morehead State men’s basketball program. He will sit out in 2013-14 and have three years of eligibility beginning with the 2014-15 campaign.

Collins, a 6-foot-3 combo guard, played in 27 games for the Southeastern Conference Tigers as a freshman. He averaged 2.6 points and shot 46 percent from three-point range in 9.1 minutes per contest. Collins registered a career-high 19 points at Boise State.

“Corban is another young man who has played at the highest level of college basketball,” Head Coach Sean Woods said. “He has a strong body, great size for a guard and high basketball IQ. His ability to shoot, pass and defend will give us a great option in the backcourt.”

Collins spent three years at Arden Christian School (N.C.) before finishing his prep career at Massanutten Military Academy (Va.). He was an honor roll student at Arden Christian and also competed on the school’s track and field team as a sprinter and long jumper.

Collins helped Arden Christian to a 32-5 record and North Carolina 3A state championship in 2010-11. He averaged 25 points, seven assists and six rebounds his final prep season in 2011-12, while leading Massanutten to a 28-8 mark and Elite Eight appearance in Virginia.

A native of High Point, N.C., Collins chose MSU over Ohio Valley Conference member Murray State and Central Florida. According to Rivals.com, he had basketball scholarship offers from Cincinnati, LSU, Massachusetts, Ole Miss, UCF and Virginia Tech out of prep school.

“We’re really glad Corban has decided to become an Eagle,” Woods said. “He’s an elite player who will help us contend for OVC championships in the near future. Corban has received interest from several high-major programs over the years and that speaks to his talent.”
