DANVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A University of Kentucky baseball prospect
is bypassing the Wildcats and taking his pitching arm professional.
Blake Perry, a sixth round pick of the Diamondbacks in the June
draft, will receive a $500,000 signing bonus after agreeing to a
deal Monday, just before teams hit the deadline to sign selections.
The Danville Advocate-Messenger reported that the former Boyle
County High School right-handed pitcher will report to the Missoula
(Mont.) Osprey, the Diamondbacks' affiliate in the Pioneer League.
Perry last pitched competitively in the spring, when he went 2-0
with a 3.54 earned-run average and 29 strikeouts in 29 2/3 innings
for the Pendleton School at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.
