Jodie, It's been a long time since Ky has had a player who could be looked to as what you would call a Star player. Someone who you knew could score in the toughest games as well as the cupcake games. 54 points is an amazing accomplishment that was actually expected of you. You don't score the amount of points you put up every game and not push the limits of all the greatest records. I think you'll do just as wekk with the pro's as you do with us. I just hope you don't go this year. Congratulations on accomplishing the unaccomplishable!!! You'll be remember in Ky for eternity for who you were and what you did. Just imagine what you could have brought to this team had you been healthy your first couple of years!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted by: Deke Location: Corbin KY on Jan 20, 2009 at 01:04 PM
Congratulations on the 54 against UT. In my opinion you are the PLAYER OF THE YEAR. I enjoy watching you play keep it up.

I've grown up watching UK basketball. A lifelong fan. I guess it's a pretty common tale though in the state of KY. In all my years watching I've never seen anyone play as well as you did at TN. It truly was incredible to see. Congrats on the achievement! Keep playing with heart. I look forward to following your career in the NBA! Please return to UK for your senior season (and convince Patrick to do the same, haha). I believe the two of you will have a chance at a national title next year if you stay (with Orton coming in). Anyway, I wish you the best in all you do, Jodie. You seem like a great guy. Keep your team-first mentality. It's what sets you apart from the other "scorers". Don't think you have to get 54 pts. every game. We're all behind you regardless. Good luck and God bless!

Congrats on such a wonderfull game Jodie. When I get about 60 and have kids and grandkids,I can say that I was watching the Kentucky Game when Jodie Meeks broke so many records and just had such an outstanding game. This year is the best team I have seen since the 04-05 season when Kentucky went to the Elite Eight and lost in double overtime.I hope this year is the year we bring the SEC and the NCAA championship back home to Kentucky where it belongs, and hopfully we can have it not only this year but next as well.So again CONGRATS on such an acomplishment and such an outstanding career you have had at Kentucky and obviously you ain't done yet.And again CONGRATS and GOD BLESS NUMBER 23. Much love from a wildcat fan...

Thanks for an amazing and history making performance! It was well worth the trip to Knoxville to witness it in person. Of the 15 or so trips I've made to that arena over the years, this was by far my favorite. I love every road victory the CATS get, but this one really stuck out. Countless VOLS fans stayed 'til the end because they knew they were a part of something special. Thanks for all your hard work in the off season, for staying positive when you had reasons to hang your head last year, and for being a great person that my kids can look up to. Keep playing with a smile and may God bless you and all you put your hands to. GO CATS!!

It was a showcase performance, showing how a game should be played when a player is on his game. Your performace was so flawless and flowing, that the word perfection comes to mind. Because your teammates recognized and played their part in allowing you to make history, I salute them as well! Beautiful, unselfish basketball, makes us all proud to bleed blue. As a lifetime fan, I remember listening to Dan's accomplishment all those years ago, and was glad to see you break it! That's what UK memories are all about. A special performace by a very special man! May it be the first of many broken records in your career! God's Blessing!

Keep it up Jodie. I'm only 20 so I never got to see Dan Issel, Ralph Beard, Alex Groza, Cotton nash, "Goose" Givens or any of those other great teams play so you're my Dan Issel. I'll be telling my grandkids about that game and about the great Jodie Meeks. here's wishing you all the luck the rest of the season and in the NBA whenever you decide to go. but please... PLEASE come back for your senior year. Daniel Orton, Patrick Patterson, Darius Miller?/Jon Hood?, Jodie Meeks and Liggins?/Porter/Galloway? we'd be unstoppable. Something to think about =o)

Often time you are the conversation around our kitchen table. Coach G has a slight giggle in his voice when he comments on you and you play. I always tell my wife "listen to coach he is laughing when he says" Jodie is a really good player. At half time my wife simply said 26 points at the half I responded "he's a really good player using Coach G's voice" after the game and a bunch of High Fives I said "He is a REALLY REALLY GOOD PLAYER' Congrats Jodie you deserve it. Thanks for being a leader and a team player.

Thank you first and foremost for the inspiration you have given to my 2 young future basketball stars. After watching you absolutely with an exclamation to the victory over Tennessee(Thanks for that as well) with both of your well deserved titles you now hold. They were so pumped up now again over basketball it is not funny. They had me in the 18 degree weather go get their basketballs, pump them up and give them drills to do in our hall way. They were up until about 2:00am the next morning they were so hyped about you and this particular win. Basketball means a lot to us as it should if you live and breathe UK basketball as our family does. Especially to my older son Mark Jr. He is a Shriners patient and has been since he was less than 2. He on the basketball court knows no boundaries with a bad leg and you will never see or hear him complain about it. Both hope to go to UK to play basketball and football. I thank you and congratulate you on your victory and deserved titles.

WOW. Jodie Meeks, what a wonderful basketball game..You played great..54 points offensively, but you also played great from a defensive stand point also.. So to me you had a great all around game. And of course i think you need to be in the conerstaion when people talk about the national player of the year.. And breaking Dan Issels 53 point record with an outstanding 54 points! That is really unbelievable. So i agree with the game announcers, "You better watch out Kobe, he's coming But i love to watch you play, and good luck the rest of the season...Go CATS!

Mr. Meeks Goes to Knoxville. Congratulations on quite an accomplishment. However, a much larger congratulations for the way that you handled yourself during the interviews by being humble and appreciating the efforts of your fellow Wildcats and the importance of the win. In today's society of Sportscenter highlights and the egocentric driven media it was an absolute pleasure to see the University of Kentucky and the fans represented so well. Congratulations again and remember that regardless of wins and losses, steals and turnovers, the goal of basketball, much as it is in life, is to be true to yourself and to put your complete effort into being the best person you can be on and off the court. You have been a wonderful example of hard work and talent while working through your injury last year and proved to be an excellent young man. I am proud to be a Kentuckian and a University of Kentucky basketball fan because of young men like you. God Bless.

Congratulations, Jodie Meeks. There is undoubtably no one in any collegiate sport who deserves a record such as this and your current success more than you.I honestly agonized along with you last season as you battled through physical and emotional issues. I also appreciate the fact that you played with real 'class' and not the 'trash',that is becoming a trend among today's athletes. 'Class' is what allows Kentucky basketball to stand above all other programs. I remember a few years ago watching Chris Jackson 'light it up' at LSU (especially against UK). After all of the times that an opposing player has burned UK (ie.Chris Lofton), it was rather nice to see a Kentucky player torch someone else! Thanks for a super game filled with awesome highlights!

Jodie The biblical meaning of meekness is power or strength under control. Your gametime effort and post game attitude exemplified the biblical meaning of the word meek. God's word tells us that all good things are from him. He has a special plan for you and I pray that he equips you with the knowledge and strength to accomplish His plan. Thank you for putting a smile on my 88 year old grandfather's face. One last thing and then I'll quit, God's word tells us that once we take hold of the plow don't look back . . . don't look back. I just wanted to say what an awesome thing you did for the big blue nation. There are so many records and feats that you have accomplished this year that needs to be recognized and I'm glad to see you're getting the appreciation you deserve. With the history of Kentucky Basketball and the great names associated with the program, it takes a special person to make the list of who's who in uk basketball. You are not only making the list, you are working and pushing yourself to the top of it. Thanks for having the heart and determination that takes UK basketball from being a game to a passion. Everytime you wear that jersey with Kentucky on the chest, know that you have the support and appreciation of the BIG BLUE NATION, no matter the final score. GOOD LUCK AND THANKS!!!!

After your great freshman year you were my favorite Wildcat going into last season. Then of course came the injuries. When they would show you on the bench in street clothes I would think to myself what a shame it was that you were not able to play. You have returned with a vengeance. Congratulations on your great game that UK fans will remember for many many years. It could not have happened to a classier young man. I was glad your dad was able to be there for it. The best of luck to you and your teammates the rest of the year. Go Cats.

GREAT Performance Jody, not only the 54 points, but the whole season so far, you are a great player, with the prettiest shot I've seen since Cliff Hagan. Thanks for having it at the Vols house.

Congratulations Jodie! You are now and will forever be a Kentucky Basketball legend. Your name will live on in the record books for many years to come. What you did last night was nothing short of extraordinary and you did it with grace and humility. It couldn't have happened to a better young man. You can rest assured that there are kids across the Bluegrass and beyond that will be out in their backyards firing up jump shots and pretending that they are Jodie Meeks and dreaming that someday they might be that good. I can't think of a better compliment than that. Thank you Jodie for helping get our program back on the map and giving the Big Blue Nation so much to be excited and happy about.

After seeing your father's modesty during a brief TV appearance, it's obvious that humility is a family trait. Records are wonderful, but character means much more in the long run, and you have it. Hold it tight and you'll have a great life ahead.

Jodie, Ive been a Wildcat fan since birth. Last night you gave us all a gift that we will remember the rest of our lives. I would have never ever thought someone would break Issel's record. Im glad that you did break the record though, and that I got to witness it which is something I didnt do with Issel since I was just 4 years old. You are a classy young man, and a great role model for kids. I would love to see you hit 60 one night. Everybody knows that a lot of money is waiting for you and Patrick in the NBA, but I hope you guys stay another year. The NBA isnt going anywhere and you guys are just going to keep getting better. Way to go Jodie!! Us Cat fans are happy for you.

It was an exceptional performance and one many Kentucky fans will remember for a long time. I would imagine there are several Tennessee fans that would like to forget but they too will remember for a long time to come. Great job and a great team win. I have been watching and listening to Kentucky Basketball for over 50 years. As a kid I listened on the radio as Cotton Nash starred for UK. I watched great shooters like Louie Dampier, Kevin Grevey,Jack Givens, Jamaal Mashburn, Tony Delk, Tashaun Prince. I watched great inside scorers like Dan Issel, Sam Bowie, Melvin Turpin all star for UK. I saw great scorers for opposing teams in person and on TV. Last nights performance by Jodie Meeks is one of the best shooting performance I have ever seen. Truly Remarkable. Congratulations Jodie, you are in the history books.

First, I just want to say thank you for staying after the coaching change. I knew you were a future leader of this team from the first moment I saw you play and I was very worried that you would leave. You have one of the purest shots I've ever seen along with great b-ball IQ and I must thank you again for coming to UK. You represent this team and school with class and dignity and you should be commended for that. I know you'll be very coveted after this season, but as a UK fan, I have to hope you return as you will shatter records and take UK to places it hasn't been in a long time. Regardless, if you choose to move on, I will be just as happy for you and will be your biggest fan at the next level. Have a great career and a wonderful time, Mr. Meeks. You deserve it.

Jodie, Wow! What a performance. Easily the best performance I have ever witnessed from a Wildcat or any player in the NCAA. You are a great player and will go down as one of the all time greats to ever wear the Blue and White. You and Patrick have given Kentucky fans a new found hope of the Cats getting back on top where we belong. I think you and Pat can take this team all the way to Detroit in April! You are a fine representative to UK and an outstanding young man. The way you carry yourself on and off the court says alot. It has been said before how you take your academic first before basketball and if you take that first there is no telling how great you are in the classroom. I speak for all Kentucky Basketball fans when I say congratulations on a fantastic performance and I know we are in for even more this season. We all sure hope you and Patrick return next season and show the NCAA that Kentucky is back and we cut the nets down. Meeks Patterson Gillispie=National Title!!

I am a college student at MSU and a lady in my class had on a Tennessee jacket during class and before we left I told her that Kentucky was going to show them who was boss. Apparently I was right. On the other hand what I should have said was Jodie Meeks is going to show Tennessee who was boss! Go ahead and give yourself a big pat on the back because you deserve it..Maybe next game you will be able to beat your own school record, thank you for the historical performance. It was the highlight of my week. AHH..C-A-T-S..CATS CATS CATS!! Thank you again for bringing back not just basketball but Kentucky basketball:)

Jodie Meeks will forever be a name of greatness to go along with the tridition of Kentucky basketball. Your proformance last night against a rival like Tenn. is phenomanal! Setting two records and getting a win is priceless! Congratulations and keep shootin' like you shootin'. I watched every second of this game and couldn't stop thinking about how perfect your game is, offense and defense. If your name is not mentioned in the talk for Player of the Year than the sports nation is BLIND! Congratulate all the cats for me and the thousands of fans all around the country. One more thing, I know the NBA is a big descision not to mention all the money you could make but please, stick around for your senior year because with you and Patterson and the emerging freshmen like Miller and Liggins along with the great recruiting class commin up you'll gonna be very hard to beat. Again, congrats on the GREAT game, the 54 points, the 10 3 pointers and the perfect game at the free throw line line!

I just want to congratulate you on a stellar game against UT. I can only imagine how sweet your performance feels after the frustrations and injuries of last season. I watched Dan Issel as a child, but I was too young to retain those memories clearly. I've always known how important Dan Issel was and still is to UK basketball history. Last night, I had the privilege to watch you, and your great performance that surpassed a great UK legend. Now, you will forever be a UK legend, and I thank you for giving me that wonderful memory. As a UK player, you will always have a special place in the BBN hearts, but now you are among the elite of the elite. Congratulations! GO CATS!!!

You truly gave us, the Big Blue faithful, a night to remember forever! Thank you, thank you! Thank you for being such an awesome player and yet such a humble person. You will always be known as one of the best to wear Kentucky across his chest! And if you find it in your heart to stick with us for your senior year I will be eternally grateful (talk your roomie into staying too!) But I understand if you move on to the next level, you deserve it. Keep up the fantastic work, I will be rooting for you every night. Just know, that all us of UK fans really really needed a night like this (especially beating Tenn @ home) and have been waiting for a looong time for something special... but tonight was beyond that. Wow. I've watched U.K. since I moved to Kentucky in 1998. I've seen some great games, but none were as great as this. Not only did you and the team beat Tennessee on their home floor, you beat the U.K. scoring record with 54 points and beat the 3-point field goal record with 10. I think this is just the first of many things that you can and will do for the rest of your career at U.K. I wish you and the team the best of luck the rest of this season and hope that you can go far this year! Congratulations, Jodie!

Congrats, Jodie! You deserve it. We all know you have been through multiple trials and tribulations w/ injuries and coaching changes; but, you toughed it out, listened to Coach Gillispie, put in tons of extra hours of work - on your shot(s), ball-handling, defense, and more; and now...you will begin to reap the rewards!! This is merely the beginning for you young man...keep pushing...keep the fire burning...keep reaching for the stars. You are about to become one!

Jodie, Congratulations! When you started getting close to the record, I was pulling for you! You deserve it - your work ethic on the court is phenomenal. I'm just glad that I was a witness to this record setting performance. I know you are probably considering early entry into the NBA, and no one can blame you for that because it is a life-changing opportunity to say the least. However, consider the fact that UK will be a contender for the National Championship next year if you and Patrick Patterson stay. Again, congratulations on a historical performance. All of KENTUCKY is proud!!!!

Jodie Meeks (23) It has been quite a long time since I have seen that type of performance from a KENTUCK player since Issel in 70, I was only 9, but remember the game. You are now amongst the elite in KY sports and a member of a fraternity of brothers that few are members of. There has been 3 times that I have been more proud of a Kentucky team and I am sure that you can figure that out. Remember, this is still a team effort and I am very proud that you continued to display that during the entire game last night and keep that up and you my young man will have many more night of unconscious during play. You are a fine young man and a great ambassador of the University and state that I am proud of. Again, congratulations on the historical game and was so pleased that we thumped UT (BIG ORANGE UGLY) on their home court. Guess is goes to show the talking heads that the real king of the SEC is still KENTUCKY. Take care my fine young man and may God bless you in all your goals.

In today's chest pounding, flagrant, over-the-top, world, it was nice to see a young man step out on the floor and just simply get the job done and do it for his teammates, his team, and for the win. Thank you for showing the basketball world the beauty that is "Kentucky" basketball. You are an impressive young man. You are to be commended. Best of luck the rest of the season. God Bless.

You are AWESOME! I met you at a UK football game this year and asked you if you were healthy because you are my "favorite" player. You assured me that you were and you proved it from the very start of the season. I told my son the very first time I watched you play your freshman year that you were the "real deal." I can't tell you how much I love to watch you play but I also know through other people that you are one fine young man. I think your nickname should be "Double Trey" to represent your number (23) and to make a statement that you can certainly hit those "3's." My only hope is that you stay one more year to not only break more records but win us a national championship. I hope you continue having a great season, have lots of fun, make many memories but please don't leave. For me it won't be the same without you. From your biggest fan!!!

Jodie, I am 82 years old and I watch and also tape every game, and because the game came on so late last night, I thought I might go to sleep. But, I did not because the game was so enjoyable. I just never saw such a rembarable performance. I have been wathcing KY basketball since the Rupp days, and I believe this was the best exhibition from an individual player that I have ever seen. I kept thinking that you would finally start missing, but that never happened. I am a tax preparer and I will go home from my work today and watch the game again on my DVR. Besides making so many points, you also played every aspect of the game so well. Congratulations for a job well done. I will go home from my work today and watch you again tonight on tape.

Congratualtions Jodie. You are such a strong athlete but seem to be so grounded! God has blessed you with an amazing talent and will continue to do so if you keep your main focus on him. Phil.4:13. You are at a place that many young men want to be. Be thankful! I am so proud to have you on "our team". I like the fact that you don't take all of the credit for yourself, but you always include your team. After all, it takes a team to get wins. One man can't do it alone. I can't wait to see you in the NBA! My 12 year old is your biggest fan and he wants to be like you. I'm sure that you have boys all over watching you. Never forget that! Your life is an open book and you are being watched all of the time. I can't think of a better role model for my son! Congrats once again and God bless!

Meeks, you're doing a fantastic job, I really hope that you are mentoring two vital players when it comes to the tourney this year, Liggins and Miller! It seems to be the only thing that is holding the two players back at this time is there lack of confidence.

I had the privilige of meeting you at the Ladies clinic and having my picture with you. Now I have a picture of myself with one of the greatest Wildcats of all time. Beyond that you are a gentleman, team player and a great leader. I so appreciated you talking to Darius Miller when he got called for walking (I think) and he was upset. I saw you say something to him and it appeared to be a encouraging word. Congratulations, keep up the good work, I have the feeling we will be watching and hearing about you for years to come.

Jodie, Your game was totally awesome and almost unbelievable! I'm still shaking my head! And you did it in front of 20,000 Vols - they were speechless! This is for You and the Team: "Wild About the CATS! The Cats are back and they're ready to play, don't call 'em meek or mild; You'd better look out cause there's no doubt, these Cats are really "Wild." They pass the ball, they run, they score, it's exciting to watch 'em play; Stand up and cheer and let 'em hear, we're behind them all the way. They're ready to rumble and that's a fact, they won't hesitate or pause; When the going gets rough, the Cats get tough; and start digging in their claws. It's just awesome to watch 'em play, as the Team keeps doing their job; Get in their face and control the pace, and hear that screaming Wildcat mob! We're "Wild" about the Cats and we're sure you will understand; If you're a certified, filled-with-pride true blue inside- Kentucky Wildcats Fan!! Judy M.

Josie, I have been listening and watching the KY Wildcates for over 40 years, and I have never seen anything like the game you played against Tennesse last night. You are a super athlete and from what I hear a super young man. I am so happy for you after the year you had last year with the injuries. I knew you were a special player, and now everyone knows. I don't think everyone thought the single game scoring record would ever be shattered, but it was, and it could not have been done by a more deserving player. Good luck in future games and keep up the good work both on and off the court.
