Cal hoping bench will be factor soon

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky coach John Calipari is convinced
little-used reserves Jon Hood, Stacey Poole and Eloy Vargas will
make an impact for the 13th-ranked Wildcats this season.
Time, however, is starting to run out.
Halfway through the year the trio and freshman walk-on Jarrod
Polson have scored a grand total of 72 points, barely five percent
of the entire team's total. None of them are averaging more than 10
minutes a game, forcing Calipari to rely on a tight six-man
rotation.
Calipari has spent extra time with the reserves in recent weeks,
putting them through rigorous drills in hopes of getting their
confidence up.
Poole admits he got sick during one of the drills but quickly
returned to the floor. He said he's putting in his own time in the
gym as well in hopes of being ready when he's called upon to make a
major contribution.
