LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - John Calipari and his No. 3 Wildcats came home from New York happy. Beating Providence 79-65 Sunday night, Calipari sees it as a step in the right direction.
"This was a good step, and we needed to." said Calipari. "There were plays when we got up 10-11 and it should have been 18 and then all of a sudden you turn around and it's four, that's what freshmen do. But I was pleased overall."
Willie Cauley-Stein put together his best game as a Wildcat scoring 15 points, pulling down eight rebounds and blocking nine shots. Cauley-Stein indicated Calipari is hard to please. " I think he was happier, you know, it still wasn't to where we need it to be. But I think he was a lot more happy than the past. the intensity level was higher than the last game and that's really what we're focusing on."
Freshman James Young led the Cats with 18. "We've been really just communicating with each other day by day, that's what's helping us." said Young. "That's what I think is going to help us in the long run, if we just keep communicating with each other on and off the court."
The Cats head to Dallas Friday night to play Baylor. ESPN has the telecast at 10:00 p.m.
