LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - When Kentucky fell to North Carolina 82-77 Saturday the Cats' record dropped to 7-3. Having the No. 1 ranked team in the country in the preseason, coach John Calipari was hoping for more.

"My hope was we would be like the best team in the last 12 years." said Calipari Saturday in Chapel Hill. Kentucky dropped to No. 19 in the AP Top 25 and No. 21 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

Unable to beat a ranked team in the early season, Calipari knows his team has a long way to go. "Reality says until they get kicked in the teeth a couple times, and then accept responsibility for what happened. Like if you played a guy and he kicked you, he just was way better than you, you've got to accept that."

Kentucky saw another physical effort from North Carolina and can expect more of the same. "Our schedule doesn't get any easier." said Calipari. "We did this kind of schedule because we need to find out right away where are we, where do we need to go?"

UK returns to action Saturday in Rupp Arena against Belmont. The Cats then host Louisville the following Saturday, December 28.
