Cats face spread offense at Missouri

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Kentucky travels to Missouri Saturday trying to snap a six game losing streak and will face the challenge of Mizzou's spread offense. UK defensive coordinator Rick Minter says it'll be another big test for his young unit.

Under coach Gary Pinkel Missouri ran the spread with success in the Big 12. It simply involves spreading the field and getting the ball in hands of playmakers in the open. But the system has its critics who have said the offense would be ill-prepared to meet the rigors of defense in the SEC.

Mizzou quarter back James Franklin is considered doubtful for the game with a sprained MCL, but Minter said Tuesday the Missouri offense will not change. He said the spread offense equalizes everything creating mismatches and his players have a lot of work to do between now and Saturday.

Going into Saturday's game both Kentucky and Missouri are winless in the SEC. The Tigers are better than a two touchdown favorite playing at Faurot Field.
