LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky freshman Anthony Davis is closing in on the school's all-time block record - with nearly half a season to play.
The 6-foot-10 forward leads the nation with 78 blocks for the second-ranked Wildcats and needs five more to match Melvin Turpin's record of 83 set in 1982-83 and shared by Andre Riddick in 1993-94.
Davis is aware that his defensive abilities are part of the reason Kentucky (16-1, 2-0) leads the NCAA in blocked shots (156) and is second in field goal defense (35.3 percent) behind Wisconsin.
The Wildcats next play Saturday at Tennessee, where they've lost three out of the previous five meetings in Knoxville.
