LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Move over Dennis Rodman and Bill Laimbeer. Bud Dupree and Za’Darius Smith say there’s another group of Bad Boys.
Dupree and Smith are considered the defensive leaders for Kentucky this season. The defensive ends are all-American candidates for a team that ranked next-to-last in the SEC.
So to put some swagger back in UK’s defense, the duo borrowed the moniker Bad Boys to describe the 11 guys on that side of the ball.
“That’s something that me and Bud came up with,” Smith said with a smile. “We had to come up with a name for our defense. We want to label ourselves as better, so we came up with the name Bad Boys.”
“We started the Bad Boys thing a couple weeks back,” safety A.J. Stamps said. “It’ll give us the confidence and swagger that we need to go out and play.
Defensive tackle Mike Douglas was a little more pragmatic, saying the name meant nothing if UK didn’t go out and back it up with their play.
“We have to make those words a movement, make it a feeling,” he said. “It has to become part of us personally. That’s how we have to carry it when we come between those white lines.”
