Goodwin loves big games

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - UK freshman Archie Goodwin says he loves a big game and that's what the Cats face tomorrow night in Gainesville. Kentucky and Florida meet for the first time this season, with the Gators leading the Cats by one game in the SEC standings.

Goodwin has struggled at times in his first year as a Wildcat and that includes the last three games. He played only 17 minutes Saturday against Auburn, going 1-6 from the field and 1-4 at the line. Monday before practice, his confidence didn't appear shaken. "You don't always have the game that you want. A lot of great players have stretches where they don't play the way they expect but it's just something that they work through and they get over."

Kentucky needs Goodwin to come through against Florida. The Gators have an experienced backcourt, featuring Kenny Boynton, Mike Rosario and Scottie Wilbekin. It's being called a 'guards game' and Goodwin likes the challenge. "I love playing big games and these are the type of games that I feel like I was made for and this team was made for." Goodwin said he felt was team would go out and get a win, coach John Calipari liked his attitude. "I'm happy, let him go in there and do it. This is all an experience for these guys, we're that young."

As for his recent struggles, Goodwin said it isn't pressure, he's thinking too much instead of just reacting on the court. "Sometimes I might think something and it might lead to a turnover or something like that. So, I just have to react more, like I was doing earlier in the season."

Kentucky and Florida tipoff at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday. The game will be televised by ESPN.
