Joker responds to lagging ticket sales

UK coach Joker Phillips responded to a report of lagging ticket sales at Friday's annual Kickoff Luncheon. Phillips said more great moments for his team are to come.

The Lexington Herald Leader, after an open records request reported that as of Sunday UK had sold 35,486 season tickets, a decline of 27 percent from last year's final total.

Speaking before the luncheon, Phillips talked to reporters.

"First of all, to those who bought the tickets, our guys are working extremely hard to reward them with a great season with some great moments, which we've had a lot of great moments here at Kentucky," he said.

"The last couple years we had two really great moments in beating South Carolina and beating Tennessee, so there's some more great moments to come. To those who haven't gone out and bought tickets, I would suggest you do. Our players are working extremely hard to makes sure we have some of those moments."

On the podium at the luncheon, Phillips was more emotional talking to UK fans.

"So get behind this team. It's your team. We're selling you the fans," he said.

" Don't do it for Joker Phillips. I don't care how you feel about Joker Phillips or this staff. Do it for these young men, who have agreed to come here to represent you, represent you the right way."
