Kentucky gets easy win over Winthrop, 89-52

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Doron Lamb set a Kentucky record for most
points by a freshman, scoring 32 as the 13th-ranked Wildcats rolled
by Winthrop 89-52 on Wednesday.
Lamb broke the record of 31 set by Jamal Mashburn on Feb. 3,
1991 against Georgia on a nifty layup that put the Wildcats up by
28 with 6:38 remaining. He walked off to a standing ovation moments
later after making 11 of 12 field goals, including 7 of 8
3-pointers.
Brandon Knight shook off a banged up left knee to finish with 21
points and five rebounds as the Wildcats (9-2) breezed into the
Christmas break with ease.
Matt Morgan led Winthrop (5-7) with 18 points, but the Eagles
had no answer for Lamb and Knight as Kentucky shot 52 percent to
remain undefeated at Rupp Arena under coach John Calipari.
