Kentucky quarterback Mike Hartline has been suspended for the bowl game. Morgan Newton is the early front runner for the job. That according to head coach Joker Phillips.
The Wildcats (6-6) returned to practice Saturday in preparation for the BBVA Compass Bowl in Birmingham, Ala., on Jan. 8 against Pittsburgh.
Phillips had said Monday the plan was to start Hartline against the Panthers. Sophomore Morgan Newton and redshirt freshman Ryan Mossakowski were not expected to play.
Hartline's arrest outside a rental property near the Kentucky campus was the result of an altercation, Roberts said. Police had been called to the scene and one other arrest had been made, she said.
The 22-year-old senior was released from the Fayette County Correctional Center shortly after his arrest about 3 a.m. EST, Roberts said.
