LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - UK women's basketball coach Matthew Mitchell expects Rupp Arena to be sold out Sunday for the matchup between No. 5 Kentucky and No. 2 Duke. It would mark the first sellout in Rupp Arena for a UK women's game.
Thursday Mitchell credited three individuals with helping build the women's basketball program at Kentucky. Former UK President Lee Todd, Athletics Director Mitch Barnhart and former coach Mickie DeMoss. Mitchell served as an assistant coach under DeMoss and he said she predicted ten years ago Rupp would be sold out. "Well you know it was a bold statement but that's what great leaders do is they cast a vision and they can see it before the rest of us can. It was sort of hard to believe at the time because we were in the state that everything was in. It was hard to imagine but Mickie is why she was so good, I did believe it at the time."
Kentucky and Duke will tipoff at 3:00 p.m. Sunday. the game can be seen live on The CW Lexington.
