LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The UK women's basketball team achieved another milestone this week, reaching a No. 4 ranking in the latest USA Today Coaches Poll. It's the highest ranking in program history.
"I'm so impressed with this team and how they're approaching their preparations for each and every game," coach Matthew Mitchell said of his Wildcats.
UK (16-1, 4-0) is riding a school-record 17-game winning streak which ties Duke for the nation's longest active winning streak. UK's 33-game home winning streak is the longest in school history and ranks No. 2 nationally behind top-ranked Baylor which has won 48 in a row at home.
"The key now, it's so early in the season, there's so many games left in the conference season, is to keep that focus and keep doing a great job preparing for each game," Mitchell said. "Then things like a high ranking, championships and a Final Four will take care of themselves."
The Wildcats, ranked fifth in the AP Poll, travel to Columbia, S.C. on Thursday, to take on No. 18 South Carolina
