Quigley wins ATP Challenger

DECATUR, Ill. – University of Kentucky alum Eric Quigley captured the United States Tennis Association’s Ursula Beck Pro Tennis Classic Championship on Sunday afternoon, knocking off Dimitar Kutrovsky of Bulgaria, 7-6, 6-4, to claim the title. The win for Quigley was his first-ever title in an ATP Challenger or ITF Futures’ Tour event.

The Ursula Beck Pro Tennis Challenge is a Futures’ Tour event run by the USTA, and will serve as valuable rankings points for Quigley as he looks to move upwards in the rankings from his current position of No. 550 in the world rankings. The event was held at the Fairview Park Tennis Center in Decatur, Ill.

Quigley served great all day, recording nine aces on the match to Kutrovsky’s three, while recording three breaks of serve.

The Pewee Valley, Ky., native won the opening-set tiebreak 7-3 to get the early leg up on Kutrovsky before recording a break in the second set to take the 6-4 win and claim the match.

During the tournament, Quigley was only forced to three sets in the second round, while he was a winner in straight sets in all four of the other four matches he played.
