Stoops calls Kemp "pit bull"

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - UK coach Mark Stoops has been happy with his group of freshmen since fall camp started. None more so than running back Jojo Kemp out of DeLand, Florida. After Wednesday's practice Stoops called Kemp a "pit bull."

If Kentucky hadn't changed coaches in December, would Kemp still be a WIldcat? "That's a hard question, that's a very hard question," said Kemp on Media Day. "I mean the coaches, they play a big role in getting me here but I was still considering them."

Kemp ran the ball for more than 2,600 yards his last two years of high school. Rivals rated him the No. 10 multipurpose back in the country. ESPN.com ranked him the No. 28 running back. In a drill Wednesday morning, Stoops said he was tenacious. "He's a pit bull, we do board drills over here. I thought he was going to pull a knife out of his sock and stab somebody." Running backs coach Chad Scott saw what happened. "He wanted to take on somebody about 90 pounds heavier than he was and really put his hand down to go do it. "When he got in there he wouldn't stop, the whistle blow and he just kept going and put the guy down."

Kemp is listed at 5-10, 190 lbs. but he should get bigger. He has an outgoing personality to go along with his game and he knows there's opportunity at Kentucky. "The opportunity, the fan base, the people who surround it by us, just put in place. And I just knew from the time being on either twitter or social networks that these are the good people, not just people that are filling your head up, they are very honest."

Kemp has more experienced players in front of him including senior Raymond Sanders, who's running No.1 at running back. He intends to stay humble and let the veterans teach him. "Just do what the coaches ask me to do, when it's my time, give it my all, give it my best."
