Highlands quarterback Patrick Towles leaves Highlands High School as one of the most decorated players in the school's history. Coach Dale Mueller says Towles tops the list of a long line of great players.

"A lot of people consider Patrick to be the best football player that's ever been in the history of Highlands. He's won more awards than anybody else. I would fit right in with that group. I just don't think there's been a better football player."

Last season, Towles led the Bluebird to the 4-A state championship, throwing for 43 touchdowns and only one interception.

Towles committed to the Wildcats in April of 2011. He says it's always been his desire to play for UK.

"I don't understand how people can give a soft commitment," Towles said just before his Wednesday announcement. "Ever since the beginning, I was 150 percent into it and I really fell in love with the coaches and everybody down there."

His list of accolades includes: Parade All-American, Kentucky Mr. Football, Kentucky Gatorade Player of the Year and Paul Hornung Award winner as Kentucky Player of the Year.

As a starter for Highlands, Towles led the Bluebirds to three consecutive state titles, with a record of 38-1.

Last season, Towles completed 171 of 279 passes (61.3 percent) for 3,820 yards. He also rushed for 589 yards and 15 touchdowns.
