LEXINGTON, Ky. - For the ninth straight season, the No. 17 University of Kentucky volleyball team earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament and will host the NCAA First and Second Rounds Friday and Saturday in Memorial Coliseum.
The Wildcats play Duquesne Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET after No. 20 Michigan State and Ohio square off at 5 p.m. in the first round opener. The winners of each match will meet Saturday at 7 p.m. in the second round with a chance to advance to the NCAA Regionals, hosted by UK Dec. 13-14.
All three first and second round matches will feature a live video stream and stats on UKathletics.com. UK’s contest against DU, and, if it should advance, Saturday’s second round, will air live on 1580 AM, with Dick Gabriel and Mandy Robbe on the call. UK finished the regular season with a 21-8 record and a 13-5 mark in Southeastern Conference play, good for third in the league. The Wildcats, who earned the No. 15 national seed in the 64-team tournament, are an even 14-14 all-time in NCAA play. Under head coach Craig Skinner, Kentucky is 7-8, having made the ‘Big Dance’ in each of his previous eight seasons.
The Wildcats’ first round matchup is against Duquesne, the Atlantic 10 Conference champions. The Dukes were 20-9 in the regular season and 12-2 in the A-10. In the opening match, 20th-ranked Michigan State, 21-11, meets a 27-5 Ohio team that won both the MAC regular season and tournament titles.
