Lexington, KY (WKYT) - Former walk-on running back CoShik Williams will get the nod as the starter when UK travels to Louisville on Sept. 2.
Coach Joker Phillips said on Thursday that Williams was deserving.
"He deserves to be the starter," Phillips said. "The way he finished last spring. Pound for pound, he's probably the strongest guy on our football team. He works as hard as anybody."
Williams has been nursing a sprained foot, but was back at practice on Thursday morning.
"One thing about CoShik, he's a tough competitor," Phillips said. "He is a tough guy. He's a quick healer, also."
Williams says he needed to get back on the field as quickly as possible.
"Somebody could be waiting to take somebody's position all the time. When guys go down, somebody's got to step up," Williams said. "I just like to get back quick, so I can be on my team."
