Williamson prepares for the NFL Draft

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - For Avery Williamson, playing in the NFL has always been a dream.

"It's a crazy feeling to know that it's finally here," Avery Williamson said. "It's draft week the next couple days so it's definitely been a long process since the end of the season. That's when I started working out and getting ready for the combine."

Williamson made a name for himself as one of the most productive linebackers in the SEC, but it was his workouts at the NFL combine in February that drew the scout's attention.

"It was really cool just to see how things just escalated after the combine. After I ran that great time it seemed like the flood gates opened up and everybody was interested."

On the field, Avery had more than 100 tackles and earned All-SEC honors in each of the past two seasons. Off the field he was a member of the All-SEC academic team and All-SEC Community service team.

"It's a huge issue for teams to invest money in guys that they might be in trouble. When I went to the combine, I was getting interviewed and things like that, and I had no issues off the field so that just boosts my stock up a whole lot. Then when they see me perform it just raises it up even more."

Avery will be spending the weekend in his home town of Milan, Tennessee, and says he will be watching the draft waiting to realize his NFL dream.

"You know I'm going to watch it up until my name is called, and then I'll be able to relax. I'm excited though."
