Meteorologist/Producer

Alex Hayes is a WKYT's newest meteorologist and producer. Hayes made the move to Kentucky from the CBS station in Abilene, Texas, where she produced, hosted, and served as the meteorologist for a 30 minute lifestyle show that focused on family, fashion, entertainment, and dining.

"Working in Texas for my first job in Meteorology was a blessing," says Hayes. "When it comes to experience, I learned how to forecast for almost every possible type of weather phenomenon. It really allowed me to find my rhythm when it comes to being on-air."

During her first month on air in Abilene, Hayes went wall-to-wall covering severe storms that dropped three tornadoes and baseball-sized hail across West Texas.

"It was definitely a trial by fire experience," she explains. "But it was in that moment I knew this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life."

Hayes has a passion for severe weather coverage and social media. When the weather turns sour, Hayes will often post rapid-fire updates detailing where the storms are heading and what people can expect when they get there.

Hayes says she is excited to be in Kentucky, where the weather can change at any minute.

"I'm looking forward to seeing snow again," says Hayes. "I remember growing up in North Carolina when it would snow, we would spend all day outside until we were soaking wet and chilled to the bone."

"WKYT has such a great team of meteorologists, and I'm excited to learn more from them about the ever changing Kentucky weather, said Hayes. I hope to have at least one chance to storm chase come spring."

Hayes was born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina. She received a bachelor's degree in meteorology from Florida State University in 2010, where she honed her forecasting skills on the entirely student produced FSU Weather show.

While at FSU, Hayes served as vice president for the Beta Mu chapter of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority, out reach chair for Noles for Haiti, and was involved with many other school and community organizations. Hayes also served as dance marathon chair for Gamma Phi, where she helped raise over $30,000 for Children's Miracle Network.

In her spare time, Hayes is a big country music fan who loves a good book and spending time with her fiancé. She has a passion for community service and is currently attends Southland Church in Nicholasville.
