Whitney Wetzel joined WKYT in May 2013 as a Morning Reporter.
Whitney comes to the Bluegrass State from WDTV in Bridgeport, W.Va., where she worked for nearly two years as the Weekend Anchor, Producer and Reporter. There she was able to cover a variety of different stories, from the shooting of a State Trooper, to a derecho that left thousands of West Virginians without power for weeks during a heat wave.
In 2011, Whitney graduated cum laude from West Virginia University with a B.S. in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Political Science: Law & Legal Studies. While attending the P.I. Reed School of Journalism, Whitney served as main anchor for her college newscast, WVU News. She anchored and reported in an episode of WVU News that was recognized by the Broadcast Education Association as the "best student newscast" in the country.
Whitney has also studied abroad in London, England, where she interned for CNBC Europe. That's where she got her first taste of working in a newsroom. While in college, Whitney was also a bureau and multimedia reporter for KDKA in Pittsburgh and WVPBS.
Although blue and gold runs through this Mountaineer's veins, don't hold it against her, because Whitney couldn't be more excited to call Kentucky her new home. She looks forward to telling you stories, bright and early, on WKYT This Morning.
