Hi! Thanks for watching 27 NEWSFIRST on WKYT. This is my second go-around at the station. Are you old enough to remember the show I hosted with Lydia on WKYT in the late 1970's? I'll give you a minute to think.
I was born in Lexington, but quickly moved to Louisville where I lived until fourth grade. My dad, David, took a job with CBS News in Washington D.C., and we moved to Alexandria, Virginia. Later he was transferred to CBS in Atlanta. I went to high school there, and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1978 with a Degree in Journalism.
While in college I did a television internship in Miami, Florida, and later became an editor/reporter at WSB in Atlanta. My first full-time job in television was at WKYT in Lexington as a news reporter. That lasted a few months before I took an exciting job as Co-host of PM Magazine at WKYT. For three years we took our viewers to mountain tops, caves, raging rivers, and far flung places of adventure. It was a blast!
In 1983 I took a news reporting job at WCBS in New York City, and then in 1984 I went south to Orlando, Florida for television reporting work. I returned to WKYT as anchor and reporter in 1987, and I've been here ever since.
I suspect some of my passion for this job comes from watching my father on CBS for 19 years. I've always been curious and interested in people who come from many different walks of life. I love to travel and see new places. One of my joys at WKYT came in 1996, '97, and '98 when I covered the UK Wildcats in the Final Four. My love for UK football and basketball goes back to the 1960's when I would dial in Cawood Ledford on the radio...even if I was in Georgia.
I've lived in Kentucky more than half my life. My father's family came here in the early 1800's, and my mother's clan came to the United States in the early 1900's from Sicily. Interesting combination isn't it? It's a great place to raise a family. I'm married to Noelle, and I have three children, Sam III, Leah, and Christina. Along with our dog Max, we make our home in Madison County in a beautiful place, surrounded by woods, the Kentucky River, and the palisades. It's one of the most beautiful places on Earth, and it's truly my paradise.
Again thanks for watching our team on WKYT. It's a pleasure and an honor to serve this community.
