Born in the Bluegrass State, my interest in the weather started at a very early age. Before I could even mouth the words ‘cloud’ or ‘rain’ I was amazed at the weather, staring out the window for hours. Growing up I would watch countless volumes of Tornado Classics videos with my dad, spurring on my dream to someday chase tornadoes. However, on May 28, 1996 a tornado seemed to chase my family and me as we barely succeeded in outrunning an F-4 tornado that swept across Bullitt County. The tornado outbreak of ’96 further enhanced my passion to study and better understand the atmosphere.
Speaking of Bullitt County, I was born and raised just south of Louisville in the city of Shepherdsville, Kentucky. Though my heart always resides here with my family, my passion for the weather led me to Mississippi State University where I pursued my career in broadcast meteorology.
While at MSU I was very active in the Department of Geosciences, serving as Secretary for the NWA/AMS Chapter for two years and actively planning the annual East Mississippi Severe Storms Symposium. Desiring to pursue my love for severe phenomena, I became a certified storm spotter through the National Weather Service in Jackson, Mississippi in the Fall of 2003. This began my numerous and tiring journeys across the country in search for severe storms. Thousands of miles spent on the road have taken me from the east coast of Florida for Hurricane Francis, to the panhandle of Texas and back to West Point, Mississippi. Experiencing severe weather through independent field research has led me to emphasize the importance of severe weather safety to my viewers.
Besides chasing storms, I continued polishing my broadcasting skills and began my on-air career my last year of college. I landed my first position as the weekend meteorologist in the small town of Meridian, Mississippi in the Spring of 2006. The experience was priceless and I was finally getting the opportunity to live my dream of communicating the weather. I graduated Mississippi State University in the Spring of 2007 with a B.S. in Geosciences and a concentration in Professional Meteorology. This degree will allow me to receive the new Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) seal from the American Meteorological Society (AMS).
In my free time, I love being on the lake, relaxing to jazz music, and painting pottery. I also love hanging out at the local coffee shops and enjoying my friends and family.
Even though I have lived in the South for several years, I am very excited to return home to the Bluegrass. Thanks for having me back! I hope I can serve you during my time here at WKYT-TV.
