I grew up in Powell, TN just a few miles outside of the Knoxville. I can remember watching the Today Show every morning while getting ready for school, and I thought the anchors had the best job ever. I even won a speech contest in elementary school, but I never thought that one day I would be a news reporter myself. But here I am working for WYMT, and I am so excited about this opportunity!
I went to the University of Tennessee to achieve my first dream in life. I was a majorette for the Vols all four years of college. I majored in Journalism and Electronic Media, and I realized that I had a second dream. I wanted to be a reporter. I fell in love with news, and the idea of telling stories that matter.
During college I had the privilege of completing two television internships in Knoxville. I also worked with my classmates on the news show UT Today as a reporter and anchor. These opportunities combined with my education gave me the tools I needed to come to WYMT and tell stories about the people of Eastern Kentucky.
In my spare time I enjoy running, working out, being outdoors, and hanging out with friends! I also love to watch college football and, of course, cheer on the Big Orange!
I am so excited for this opportunity to work at WYMT! I would love to hear from you! If you have any story ideas, feel free to email me at katie.roach@wymtnews.com
