I left the hills of Tennessee for the mountains of Kentucky. I once thought not much could get me to leave my home state, but then my love for broadcast news could take me anywhere. It brought me here to Eastern Kentucky and WYMT.
I grew up in Knoxville (yes, Big Orange Country). Growing up, I always loved to talk and share stories, but I never thought I could actually make a career out of it. During my sophomore year of high school, a teacher assigned an extensive research project. I chose to study the media and its effects on children. After some interesting survey results from local elementary schools, a local TV reporter did a news story on my school project results. I decided then I wanted her job. I never waivered in my career goals from that moment.
I attended and graduated from the University of Tennessee. I chose broadcasting for my major and never changed. I worked at WUOT-FM, Knoxville's NPR affiliate, while I was still in college. I really learned how to be a reporter with that job. Later, I interned at our sister station, WVLT. That internship would eventually lead me here to WYMT, but I made another stop first. I was a reporter and anchor at Cable Channel
12 in Oak Ridge, TN. I covered many exciting stories during my time there. I went with the 278th Armored Calvary Regiment soldiers to training in Camp Shelby, Mississippi before they left for Iraq. I saw the nuclear materials from Libya stored at Y-12 in Oak Ridge, and I covered President Bush's visit to the Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
I first met and worked for Neil Middleton when I was an intern at WVLT.
In February of 2005, he offered me a job at WYMT. I took the opportunity and it's where I am today.
I can do more than report the news. I am a ballet, tap, modern, and jazz dancer. I studied dance most of my life and taught dance classes for several years in Tennessee.
I am also a huge sports fan. I love the Tennessee Vols! I didn't get a "blood transfusion from orange to blue" when I moved here, but I will cheer for the Wildcats except when they play the Vols!
I love my job and am very happy to be here in Eastern Kentucky and WYMT-TV.
