Not everybody can say this – but I truly love my job. I’m excited to be a part of the WYMT-TV family, and I’m working hard to cover the Cumberland Valley as Bureau Chief. I’m also enjoying calling Middlesboro home and I just can’t get enough of eastern Kentucky’s natural beauty.
I was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. I began my love for news when I helped start up a news station at Ballard High School. So when I moved to western Kentucky in 1997 to attend Murray State University, I knew I wanted to work for the school’s TV station, MSU TV-11. I reported, anchored and produced a news show and eventually reported a nightly news segment to viewers in parts of Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky and Tennessee for a UPN station in Murray. When I graduated from MSU with a degree in broadcast journalism, I returned to Louisville to work for WHAS-TV. I managed reporters and photographers as an assignment editor, finding stories for them to work on. I then worked overnights after being chosen to produce “Good Morning Kentuckiana,” one of the most successful morning shows in the country.
But I had to get back to meeting people and telling their stories. I met with Neil Middleton at WYMT-TV, and immediately fell in love with the station and this beautiful area. Mountain News had the perfect opportunity for me – the Cumberland Valley Bureau Chief position. I’m working hard – keeping an eye on many areas as I strive to cover the issues that matter most to you.
Outside of work, you’ll find me enjoying the outdoors by running, hiking, swimming and maybe just hanging out by the lake. I have always bled blue as they say. I’ve been a die-hard UK fan all my life and may lose my voice from time to time after big games. While inside, I love spending time with my own little “wild” cat Katrina (I named her that well before the awful storm). I also enjoy traveling to Louisville and Lexington to visit family and friends when I can get away.
I still can’t get over the kindness everyone has shown me since I’ve been here. Thanks to everyone I’ve met for being incredibly friendly – I appreciate you so graciously welcoming me to the mountains. I look forward to telling your stories and helping to contribute to the one true voice we have in this part of the state – WYMT Mountain News. See you around!
