WKYT-TV first went on the air on September 30, 1957 as a CBS affiliate. The staff of approximately 15 was originally housed in a small building on property in Eastern Fayette County. As the station grew, a larger facility was built - that facility is now the home of WKQQ-FM. WKYT continued to grow and in 1968, after construction was completed on the new building, personnel and equipment were moved to the current site on Winchester Road.
