Chopra Center Certified Ayurvedic Lecture Series

Date(s): 10/3/2014, 10/4/2014 Date(s): 10/10/2014, 10/11/2014 Date(s): 10/17/2014

5:30pm -7:30pm

207 E Reynolds Rd #260, Lexington, KY 40517
Students will learn the Ayurvedic lifestyle program presented by a Deepak Chopra Certified Instructor. The Chopra Center is based in Carlsbad, California. Holistic Life Sciences is proud to have Chopra Instructor's on our team and bring this event to Lexington, Ky. Ayurveda is an ancient east Indian healing system and lifestyle, this course will provide all the information you need to begin a life filled with balance of mind, body, and soul. From our environmental challenges, our state of stress, weight loss and management our state of health and happiness unfolds. You will learn your personal elemental make up (Dosha) and how the food you eat, how you react to emotional situations, social interactions, mediation practices, and yoga practices will improve how you digest your life. Most may look at digestion as only referring to the food you eat. The digestion process goes far beyond the plate. Your day to day life, events you encounter, what your TV is tuned to, how much you enjoy your job and relationships, and your reaction to these life events all must be digested. If you hold onto those negative emotional trauma’s they will eventually manifest into a disease or illness, even if you ate the perfect amount of food with the perfect nutrition. Some who hold onto weight that eat healthy and workout, and they wonder why? It is because you have 'held onto' undigested emotional baggage. This powerful Ayurvedic knowledge will teach you the release process of the past and how to more efficiently process future emotions. Our goal is for our students to walk away with the knowledge of 'tuning' themselves from one moment to the next no matter what is taking place outside of them.

The Graffiti Run

Date(s): 9/7/2014

9am - 11am

Kentucky Speedway, Sparta, KY
The Graffiti Run will be the most colorful day of your life. Bold statement, we know (especially if you lived through the 70′s or ever owned a hyper-color t- shirt), but just hear us out. First off, we use the term “run” loosely here at the Graffiti Run. Our 5K course is more about having a blast with friends and family than it is about busting out four-minute miles. So feel free to run, walk, dance, crawl, roll, piggy-back ride, or summersault your way through the color madness. Secondly, the no-six-pack-required course means the Graffiti Run is for EVERYONE (unless you hate color or smiling, then you are not invited). You will see green grand-parents next to pink college students. Yellow marathon runners alongside blue children. Orange moms next to purple unicorns*. We only have two rules: you must get absolutely drenched in color and have an amazing time.
Raising money for local charities! Check out the event location for more details.
The Graffiti run is currently offering 50% off registration for everyone included in the Kentucky Speedway email blast. Go to The Graffiti Run website and sign up for the Cincinnati, Louisville, and Lexington race. Type the code KSpeed50 when prompted during check out to redeem offer!!

RED BARN RADIO WELCOMES DRYMILL ROAD 08/20/14 AT 8 PM
Drymill Road crafts old-timey newgrass/bluegrass-tinged goodness marked by upbeat banjo, perky mandolin and wildly harmonizing vocals — overall, it’s chipper, charming, spirited good time music that’ll take you somewhere down the tranquility of a back road then sling you into the heart of a raucous party to sell out crowds. A mighty fine musical time! The band has played the Carnegie Hall in New York and the Canadian Embassy in Washington, DC as well as festivals with Rhonda Vincent, IIIrd Tyme Out, Ricky Skaggs, and more! All Day

Tucson, AZ
PODS of Lexington understands that for students heading off to college it is meant to be a thrilling and life-changing experience. From generations before, students heading off to college are tasked with packing up their belongings and moving into their new home for the next four years.

For over a decade, PODS of Lexington has helped thousands move without the stress of doing the driving. The moving and storage leader is offering college students entering the fall semester tips to ensure a smooth, less stressful move before they make their way into their new college residence.

“The move away from home to college transition is an exciting and emotional time for parents and students” said Ken Kocon, general manager of PODS of Lexington. “PODS is here to help undergrads have a relaxing moving experience into their new living space by offering dependable moving and storage options.”

Before students make the big move, PODS of Lexington offers simplified moving tips to help make their move safer, greener and much more efficient:

10 College Moving Tips for Students
1. Check out the college or apartment complex website for moving information and resources ahead of time. Use a checklist of suggested items to bring and keep the packing process focused and streamlined.
2. Begin packing belongings a couple of weeks ahead of time to keep last minute stress to a minimum. Instead of cramming everything into a car with only room for the driver, rent a PODS container one week prior to the moving date and let PODS deliver everything to the new destination. This provides a relaxed schedule for both parents and students.
3. Have a friend, roommate or fellow student moving to the same school? With enough room to spare, share the cost of a PODS container with your friend.
4. If you will be sharing a dorm room with one or more fellow students, contact them ahead of time. Discuss personal styles and work together on making the dorm room a “home away from home.” Discuss larger items such as microwaves and TVs to avoid duplicates to maximize space.
5. Upon arrival to the new living destination, give the folks at PODS a call for a scheduled delivery of your PODS container. Unpacking is easy thanks to ground-floor accessibility.
6. Be realistic and don’t over-pack. Find out the dimensions of the room(s) that will be occupied. Consolidate and don’t bring items that won’t be needed.
7. Important rule of thumb for packing boxes: pack heavy items such as books in small boxes and lighter items such as towels and linens in larger boxes. Be sure to label each of your boxes on all sides.
8. Make sure items are safely protected during the move. Items most likely used for packaging include: bubble wrap, packing tape, and plastic stretch wrap, cushion foam, wadded up newspapers and old blankets and towels.
9. Think ahead and buy green. Purchase green items such as natural material furniture and organic sheets to reduce your carbon footprint. Donate your used items to local nonprofits.
10. Ask family and friends in advance for help transporting belongings in and out of PODS containers. If no help is available, a local PODS representative will have a list of reliable labor service providers available for an affordable cost.

Aquila Theatre in Shakespeare's "The Tempest"

Date(s): 3/5/2015

The Norton Center for the Arts, Danville, KY
Shakespeare’s final work is considered one of his finest and most distinctive. The Tempest spins a magical tale of shipwrecks and storms, revenge and reconciliation, and a father’s love for his child. The play is set on an exotic island, where Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan, is exiled with his daughter, Miranda. He seeks revenge against his conspirators, using his magical powers to conjure up a tempest to wreck their ship. Through a 60 minute guided tour, The Aquila Theatre will bring its innovative style and dynamic physical approach to Shakespeare’s famous magical tale of forgiveness and enlightenment. The New York Times has described Aquila’s productions as “Gleefully engaging…almost unbearable fun…directed with inspiration.”

Organ Rock Star: Cameron Carpenter Student Matinee

Date(s): 2/27/2015

10am

The Norton Center for the Arts, Danville, KY
As the first organist ever nominated for a Grammy Award for a solo album, Cameron Carpenter is breaking boundaries in new music. He is a virtuoso composer-performer whose approach to the organ is virtually unprecedented, with a history of collaborations with jazz and pop artists that is more diverse than any other organist. As a keyboard prodigy, he performed Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier at age 11 and now holds a Master’s Degree from The Julliard School. Cameron’s goals are anything but modest: the brash, outspoken and phenomenally talented musician and composer wants the organ recognized as a premier recital instrument on par with violins and pianos. As with most trailblazers, Carpenter has energy and vision equal to his talent and a knack for engaging audiences that simply underscore his commitment and passion for his work.

Cameron will perform a mixed repertoire of traditional classical music, original compositions and arrangements, and other selected works on the Norton Center’s very own pipe organ as well as on his newly created International Touring Organ.

Aquila Theatre in "Wuthering Heights"

Date(s): 3/6/2014

8pm

The Norton Center for the Arts, Danville, KY
Bringing its signature style and dynamic approach, Aquila re-imagines one of the most famous love stories ever told with this heart-wrenching new production. Set on the wild, windswept Yorkshire moors, Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights is the story of free-spirited Catherine and dark, brooding Heathcliff. As children, they are inseparable and, with time, their affection deepens into a passionate love. But Catherine lets her head rule her heart as she chooses to marry the wealthy Edgar Linton. Heathcliff flees the moors broken-hearted only to return years later as a wealthy man, but is it too late for them? Over a century and a half after it was published, Brontë’s magnum opus remains an incredibly moving and classic tale of love, passion, and revenge. Impeccable design and a unique physical style combine with a marvelous cast to make Wuthering Heights an exquisite and captivating theatrical experience.

Cameron Carpenter

Date(s): 2/27/2015

8pm

The Norton Center for the Arts, Danville, KY
As the first organist ever nominated for a Grammy® Award for a solo album, Cameron Carpenter is shattering boundaries in new music. He is a virtuoso composer-performer whose approach to the organ is virtually unprecedented, and his repertoire—from the complete works of J. S. Bach and Cesar Franck to his hundreds of transcriptions of non-organ works, his original compositions and his collaborations with jazz and pop artists— is perhaps the largest and most diverse of any organist. As a keyboard prodigy, he performed Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier at age 11 and now holds a Master’s Degree from The Juilliard School. Cameron’s goals are anything but modest: the brash, outspoken and phenomenally talented musician and composer wants the organ recognized as a premier recital instrument on par with violins and pianos. As with most trailblazers, Carpenter has energy and vision equal to his talent and a knack for engaging audiences of all ages that simply underscores his commitment and passion for his work.

Cameron will perform a mixed repertoire of traditional classical music, original compositions and arrangements, and other selected works on the Norton Center’s very own pipe organ as well as on his newly created International Touring Organ.
