Aquila Theatre in "Wuthering Heights"

Date(s): 3/6/2014

8pm

The Norton Center for the Arts, Danville, KY
Bringing its signature style and dynamic approach, Aquila re-imagines one of the most famous love stories ever told with this heart-wrenching new production. Set on the wild, windswept Yorkshire moors, Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights is the story of free-spirited Catherine and dark, brooding Heathcliff. As children, they are inseparable and, with time, their affection deepens into a passionate love. But Catherine lets her head rule her heart as she chooses to marry the wealthy Edgar Linton. Heathcliff flees the moors broken-hearted only to return years later as a wealthy man, but is it too late for them? Over a century and a half after it was published, Brontë’s magnum opus remains an incredibly moving and classic tale of love, passion, and revenge. Impeccable design and a unique physical style combine with a marvelous cast to make Wuthering Heights an exquisite and captivating theatrical experience.

Cameron Carpenter

Date(s): 2/27/2015

8pm

The Norton Center for the Arts, Danville, KY
As the first organist ever nominated for a Grammy® Award for a solo album, Cameron Carpenter is shattering boundaries in new music. He is a virtuoso composer-performer whose approach to the organ is virtually unprecedented, and his repertoire—from the complete works of J. S. Bach and Cesar Franck to his hundreds of transcriptions of non-organ works, his original compositions and his collaborations with jazz and pop artists— is perhaps the largest and most diverse of any organist. As a keyboard prodigy, he performed Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier at age 11 and now holds a Master’s Degree from The Juilliard School. Cameron’s goals are anything but modest: the brash, outspoken and phenomenally talented musician and composer wants the organ recognized as a premier recital instrument on par with violins and pianos. As with most trailblazers, Carpenter has energy and vision equal to his talent and a knack for engaging audiences of all ages that simply underscores his commitment and passion for his work.

Cameron will perform a mixed repertoire of traditional classical music, original compositions and arrangements, and other selected works on the Norton Center’s very own pipe organ as well as on his newly created International Touring Organ.

ZZ Top

8:30pm

The Norton Center for the Arts, Danville, KY
The sharp-dressed men of legendary rock band ZZ Top are bringing their signature mix of Southern rock, blues and boogie, to the Norton Center this fall. Guitarist Billy F. Gibbons, bassist Dusty Hill and drummer Frank Beard are currently touring the country in support of their first studio album in nine years, La Futura. ZZ TOP’s music is always instantly recognizable, eminently powerful, profoundly soulful, and 100% Texas American in derivation. They’ve been thrilling audiences since the group’s inception in 1969 and can lay the undisputed claim to being the longest running major rock band with original members intact. Their unmistakable sound and attitude have garnered them legions of fans and cemented their status as cultural icons with popular hits including, “Sharp Dressed Man,” “La Grange,” “Legs,” “Gimme All your Lovin’,” and “Tube Snake Boogie.” These Rock and Roll Hall of Famers have sold millions of records over the course of their career, have been officially designated as Heroes of The State of Texas, have been referenced in countless cartoons and sitcoms and are true rock icons but, against all odds, they’re really just doing what they’ve always done. They’re real and they’re surreal and they’re ZZ Top.

The Russian State Symphony Orchestra, known in Russia as the State Symphony Capella of Russia, was established in 1991. Its founding followed a merge of the State Symphony Orchestra of the USSR Ministry of Culture and the USSR State Chamber Choir. Under the direction of Music Director Valeri Polyansky, the RSSO is now most known for its strict discipline of the ensemble, the warmth of its timbre, and excellent balance between sections, as well as the subtlety of nuance evident in its performances. In their Central-Kentucky debut, the Orchestra will be joined by one of the most versatile musicians of our time: pianist Vladimir Feltsman, who has performed at Carnegie Hall and The White House and worked with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and the Moscow Philharmonic. The program includes: Tchaikovsky’s Slavonic March, Op. 3; Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Op. 18; and Prokofieff’s Symphony No. 5 in B-flat Major, Op. 100.

HP Printer not connecting to my laptop.

Date(s): 8/30/2014

4:30pm

Anitoch
I had an issue while connecting my 2 year old HP printer to my brother's laptop that I had borrowed for starting my own business. I used a quick Google search to fix the problem but that did not help me.

I then decided to get professional help to solve my problem. After having received many quotations from various companies, I decided to go ahead with Online Tech Repair (www.onlinetechrepairs.com).

Reasons I chose them over the others:

1) They were extremely friendly and patient with me during my initial discussions and responded promptly to my request.

2) Their prices were extremely reasonable.

3) They were ready and willing to walk me through the entire process step by step and were on call with me till I got it fixed.

How did they do it?

1) They first asked me to state my problem clearly and asked me a few questions. This was done to detect any physical connectivity issues with the printer.

2) After having answered this, they confirmed that the printer and the laptop were functioning correctly.

3) They then, asked me if they could access my
laptop remotely to troubleshoot the problem and fix it. I agreed.

4) One of the tech support executives accessed my laptop and started troubleshooting.

5) I sat back and watched as the tech support executive was navigating my laptop to spot the issue. The issue was fixed.

6) I was told that it was due to an older version of the driver that had been installed.

My Experience

I loved the entire friendly conversation that took place with them. They understood my needs clearly and acted upon the solution immediately. Being a technical noob, I sometimes find it difficult to communicate with tech support teams. It was a very different experience with the guys at Online Tech Repairs. You can check out their website www.onlinetechrepairs.com or call them on 1-914-613-3786.

I would definitely recommend this service to anyone who needs help fixing their computers.

Thanks a ton guys. Great Job....!!

Dentistry From The Heart

Date(s): 8/16/2014

9am - 4pm

3285 Blazer Parkway, Suite 200, Lexington, KY 40509
Pearson Justice Dental will host its second annual Dentistry From The Heart (DFTH) event – an event providing a day of free dental care to those in need, ages 18 and older.
It is anticipated that Dentistry From The Heart patients will travel from all across Kentucky to Pearson Justice Dental for this free day of dentistry, taking place from 9:00am until 4:00pm on Saturday, August 16th. The line may begin as early as the night before, and patients have been known to camp out for the services that will be provided.
In 2001, Dentistry From The Heart started with New Port Richey dentist, Dr. Vincent Monticciolo, as a way to give back to the community and provide aid to the growing number of Americans without dental insurance. Since its inception, Dentistry From The Heart has grown to include over 200 annual events worldwide. It is a registered non-profit organization that provides free dental work for those in need, and these events have provided more than 80,000 patients across the country each year with more than $8 million of free dentistry.
Pearson Justice Dental along with a team of dentists, volunteers, and sponsors will provide patients with a free extraction, filling, or cleaning on a first come, first served basis. This is the second DFTH event for Pearson Justice Dental.
“It all comes down to wanting to provide something greater to my community,” said Dr. Laura Justice. “The services provided by Dentistry From The Heart help more than just a patient’s teeth, they give them a renewed reason to smile.”
The media is invited to join the hundreds of volunteers, patients, and Pearson Justice Dental on Saturday, August 16th to spread free smiles across Lexington through Dentistry From The Heart, located at 3285 Blazer Parkway. For more information about the event, please visit www.dentistryfromtheheart.org or www.lexingtonkydentist.com.

"Capitalizing on Culture"

Date(s): 8/1/2014, 8/2/2014

Friday 8/01/2014 10am - 4pm ; Saturday 08/02/2014 9am - 5pm

Pikeville, KY
Exploring how the National Park Service (NPS) “Discover Our Shared Heritage” Travel Itinerary Series might be put to use in Eastern Kentucky – and how innovative marketing of heritage tourism could reap huge economic returns – will be the focus of keynote presentations during the “Capitalizing on Culture” conference Aug. 1-2 in Pikeville.

Other sessions will examine place making, economic development through historic preservation, benefits of nonprofit advocacy, pumping life back into traditional downtowns, cemetery preservation and genealogical tourism, and identifying themes that can help the region link unique places and create heritage tourism opportunities by telling an authentic story.

The third entry in the 2014 Kentucky Preservation Series, “Capitalizing on Culture” is presented by the Kentucky Heritage Council/State Historic Preservation Office (KHC), Shaping Our Appalachian Region (SOAR) and Community Trust Bancorp Inc. Other presenting partners are Preservation Kentucky Inc. (PKI), the Kentucky Main Street Program, Friends of Kentucky Main Street, Pikeville Main Street Program, the City of Pikeville and Pike County.

This free, two-day conference will take place at the Eastern Kentucky Exposition Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2.

Don Wollenhaupt, chief of interpretation and education for the NPS Southeast Region, will kick off the Friday program using African American history and Civil War sites to illustrate how a travel itinerary can be packaged and nationally branded to facilitate a well-rounded experience. A panel discussion will follow with representatives from Big South Fork National Park, the Lewis and Clark Trust, Daniel Boone National Forest and the Kentucky African American and Native American heritage commissions.

The Friday panel will include Phil Osborne, president of Osborne and Associates in Lexington and chair of the SOAR Tourism, Arts and Heritage working group. “Kentucky – especially the Appalachian Region – is so steeped in history and culture that many take it for granted. I see tremendous opportunity in nurturing that tradition of history, heritage and culture into its own tourism sector,” he said.

“Anything our SOAR working group can do to help push that concept along will be a welcomed challenge. The reward will be in the risks we take to bring that story to new generations of Kentuckians and to those who have migrated elsewhere who need to understand the deep roots that helped make them who they are today.”

At 1 p.m. Saturday, Griffin VanMeter of Bullhorn Creative and Kentucky for Kentucky will discuss the work he has done for his North Limestone neighborhood in Lexington and how place making helps define communities. This will be followed by a panel discussion with entrepreneurs from several successful eastern Kentucky small businesses.

Also Friday will be a discussion on preservation advocacy led by Betsy Hatfield, PKI executive director, followed by a roundtable discussion with representatives of regional and local preservation nonprofits discussing how their efforts have lasting benefits. The day will end with a free reception hosted by Preservation Kentucky, and free tours of historic sites associated with the Hatfields and McCoys.

Other Saturday presentations will examine cemetery preservation and genealogy-based heritage tourism, the National Register of Historic Places as a heritage tourism tool, state and federal rehabilitation tax credits for historic buildings, and Kentucky ArtPlace and Our Town, two programs that were the subject of a Kentucky Arts Council conference in May. Grant recipients who have benefited from these programs gathered to discuss opportunities to connect creative arts communities across the state, and two eastern Kentucky sessions will include recaps of that meeting as well as broaden the discussion to include anyone interested in building stronger communities and stimulating economic growth through arts and cultural engagement.

For a complete agenda, see http://www.heritage.ky.gov/news/2014caponculture.htm

Hampton Inn of Pikeville is serving as the conference hotel, with rooms available for $94 per night through July 23. For information or reservations, call 606-432-8181.

Red Barn Radio Welcomes My Brother's Keeper

Date(s): 7/2/2014

8pm

Lexington, KY 40507
Moved forward from last week's power outage:
RED BARN RADIO WELCOMES MY BROTHER'S KEEPER 07/02 8 PM.

Growing up together, and surrounded by music, My
Brother's Keeper has played music together for years,
but not under this official band name. MBK was raised on
the genres of Folk, Bluegrass, and Gospel, so the
growing popularity of Folk music, lead by bands such as
Mumford and Sons and the Lumineers, only opened a door
for MBK to take the music they love to eager audiences.
However, MBK does not limit themselves musically,
influenced by bands of many different genres and
backgrounds. MBK strives to seek inspiration anywhere
and use it in an original manner. MBK consists of
brothers Benjamin, Titus, and Joshua Luckhaupt on
guitar, mandolin, and fiddle respectively. Wyatt
"Sawmill" Murray completes this ensemble on the upright
bass. With original music that draws inspiration from
Bluegrass, Rock and everything in between, MBK strives
to be unique as well as listenable. MBK features tight,
four part harmonies, rock driven lead vocals, blazing
solos, and complex and interlaced musical interludes. In
an effort to be unique and open minded, and bring a
fresh blend of Bluegrass to new audiences, My Brother's
Keeper has presented itself as one of the fastest rising
Bluegrass bands on the scene of Cincinnati music.
