10th Annual Blooming Bardstown Garden Tour and Marketplace

Date(s): 6/8/2013

8:00 A.M.-4:00 P.M.

Extension Office at 317 S Third, Bardstown, KY
Seven fabulous private gardens are on this year’s self-guided tour that runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine. The gardens range in size from a small garden spilling over with daylilies to a ten-acre paradise with over 3,000 trees planted in the French style of allee and a one and one-half acre lake. Guests will be able to feed the fish in the lake during the tour. A koi fish pond with a peaceful waterfall, large and small vegetable gardens, creative outdoor “rooms,” container gardening, sun and shade gardens, and comfortable outdoor dining areas are included on this year’s tour of selected gardens in Bardstown and Nelson County. There will also be such features as pergolas, grape arbors, rain barrels, ornamental grasses, multi-level decks, wooded paths, hundreds of birdhouses, and enough garden art to keep you smiling all day. St Monica’s community vegetable gardens are also on the tour as well as Bardstown’s first ever rain garden on W. Broadway and a demonstration garden at the Nelson County Extension Office, 317 S. Third, which is where the tour begins.

Local artists will once again be practicing their crafts in the gardens during the tour. Their artwork will be for sale after the tour.

The Marketplace will be open at the Extension Office from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The purchase of a tour ticket is not necessary to enjoy the events taking place at the Marketplace. Visitors can purchase their garden tour tickets, grab a bite to eat, visit the Nelson County Homemakers/4-H baked goods booth, sign up for the door prize and submit their bids in the Silent Auction. There are over fifty items available for bid in the Silent Auction including three one-hour plane rides for up to 3 people, a one-night stay for up to 8 people at the Bernheim Lake House plus a one year family membership to Bernheim Forest, a double-wide compost bin, a 10’ x 3’ wooden bridge, gift baskets from the local distilleries, Stihl hedge shears, handcrafted garden art, a signed Maker’s Mark barrel head, plenty of gift certificates from generous contributors, and much, much more. Local vendors will have garden-related items for sale and the Kentucky Home Master Gardeners, who sponsor the event, will be selling annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs, houseplants, and flower seeds. They will also be selling hand-crafted items for the garden such as birdhouses, stepping stones, and uniquely planted containers along with gardening magazines and books, equipment and yard art.

Tour tickets, available in May, are $8 in advance at the Extension Office at 317 S. Third and the Tourist Commission at One Court Square in Bardstown, KY. They will be sold on the day of the tour for $10 only at the Marketplace and only until 2 p.m.

Check out pictures of past garden tours and the items that are up for bid at the Silent Auction at Facebook.com/Blooming Bardstown Garden Tour. For more information, call the Extension Office at 502-348-9204.
