ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager Training

9:00 AM - 11:00 AM

Sullivan University College of Health and Natural Sciences building, 901 S. Third Street, Louisville, KY 40203
The Louisville Energy Alliance, in partnership with Louisville Metro Government’s Office of Sustainability, will host a complimentary ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager training session on July 23, 2015 at Sullivan University’s College of Health and Natural Sciences building, 901 S. Third Street, Louisville, KY 40203

The training will include a one-hour webinar hosted by ENERGY STAR followed by on-site assistance with entering data into the software. Attendees will learn the basic functionality of Portfolio Manager as well as how to set up an account, log energy and water use data and generate custom reports from the data. Following the webinar, participants will receive on-site assistance as they create Portfolio Manager accounts and enter energy usage data into the software. By the end of the session, attendees will have entered one year of energy data, have a basic understanding of the capabilities of Portfolio Manager and be one step closer towards ENERGY STAR certification.

Registered participants will receive an email detailing what they need to bring to the training. For more information, please contact Andrea Webster at andrea.webster@louisvilleky.gov.

Portfolio Manager is a free, online software that enables building owners and managers to track and evaluate a facility’s energy and water consumption over time. Buildings that perform in the top 25% of their peers, receiving a minimum score of 75/100, are eligible to receive the ENERGY STAR certification.

ENERGY STAR certification shows that a building meets strict energy performance standards set by the EPA. Buildings that are ENERGY STAR certified are seen as top performers in energy-efficiency when compared to other peer buildings. Benefits of gaining ENERGY STAR certification include lower operating costs, higher marketability, fewer greenhouse gas emissions and higher rental rates.

After entering data into Portfolio Manager, buildings owners and managers will become eligible to participate in the Office of Sustainability’s Free ENERGY STAR Certification Program, which allows building owners to receive free verification services from a licensed architect or engineer, building managers and owners must first enter their data into Portfolio Manager.

UK E-Day

9:00 AM - 1:00 PM

UK College of Engineering, Lexington Campus
Engineers Day, or E-Day, is a celebration of everything engineering has to offer. From building bridges to discovering new medications to writing the software that powers our cell phones, engineers and computer scientists do the things that make our 21st-century world work. E-Day comes at the end of Engineers Week, an annual event sponsored by a coalition of more than 100 professional societies, major corporations and government agencies dedicated to promoting math and science literacy and ensuring a diverse and well-educated future engineering workforce.

E-Day is a “come and go” type event. Most activities do not a have start time, although a few contests (Volcano and Egg Drop come to mind) will have a definitive time for judging. Most people find that they can’t make it around to every exhibit and contest because we have so many, so it is advisable to get here close to 9 am.

Woodland Owners Short Course

8:30 A.M.-4:30 P.M.

Cedarmore Camp
The WOSC is run on a regional basis with a full Saturday program in the East, Central, and West regions of the state.
The regional programs have been developed by local planning committees with local needs in mind and cover a wide variety of subjects. Some topics covered include: how to receive a fair price when you sell timber, making your woodlands wildlife friendly, wild boar issues, tree id, tree planting, emerald ash borer and much more (see brochure). The WOSC is one of the best woodland educational opportunities available in the state for woodland owners; however, anyone with an interest in forestry or wildlife will benefit from attending.

The WOSC will be held in 3 locations in August (August 4 -- Whitley Co.; August 11 -- Marshall Co.; August 25 -- Franklin and Shelby Co. This program is a great opportunity for families to learn how to enhance their woodlands and get the most from their ownership experience. Most woodland owners are not aware of the wide variety of organizations and programs available to help them care for their woodlands. The primary mission of the WOSC is to assist Kentucky’s woodland owners in the care and management of their woodland resource.

More than ten Kentucky forestry, wildlife, and natural resource organizations work in partnership to plan, and conduct the WOSC. http://www.ca.uky.edu/forestryextension/WOSC.php
