Brasabana hosts Latin American Culinary Heritage Tour Sept.15 to Oct. 12

Join chef Miguel Rivas, a Dominican Republic native, and the Brasabana team on a culinary excursion through Latin America with a series of dinners meant to inform and satisfy during National Hispanic Heritage Month. The Latin American Culinary Heritage Tour will take place from Sept. 15 to Oct. 12, with each week celebrating a different region. The authentic meals will include a traditional appetizer, entrée and dessert for each guest, offered from 5 to 9:30 p.m., for $28.95 per person. For reservations, call (859) 303-5573. “As a native of the Dominican Republic, I am proud of my Latin heritage and I look forward to interpreting, showcasing and sharing some of the special dishes from each region,” said Rivas, who was previously the head cook at New York City’s acclaimed Latin eatery, Patria Restaurant. “Join us to learn more about the increasingly popular cuisine of Latin America.”

The Latin American Heritage Culinary Tour menu includes:

Sept. 15 to 21: Tour of South America
Venezuelan cachapas of fresh corn pancakes with crispy pork and jalapeño aioli
Chilean charquicán of beef and vegetable stew with white rice and ensalada típica
Colombian cholados with tropical fruit cocktail, crushed ice and coconut

Sept. 22 to 28: Tour of Central America
Salvadorian-style papusas with flour arepas stuffed with black beans, pork and avocado
Panamanian carne en palito of chicken and vegetable skewers with yellow rice, black beans and sweet plantains
Costa Rican budín de pan (Costa Rican bread pudding)

Sept. 29 to Oct. 5: Tour of the Caribbean
Dominican pionono of stuffed sweet plantains with spiced ground beef
Puerto Rican of arroz con gandules and lechón asado
Flan Cubano with custard tart

Oct. 6-12: Tour of Brazil and Mexico
Brazilian vatapá of seafood and coconut milk stew
Mexican flautas stuffed with chorizo and potato
Mexican churros of fried pastry dough

First Annual Breast Cancer Awareness 5k Run/ Walk will be October 11, 2014 at Fish Pond Lake, Payne Gap, KY. Pre-register by October 1, 2014 for event t-shirt. May register on day of run 7:30-8:30 am. Run Begins at 9:00 am. Walkers $15, Single Runners $25, Groups of 6 or more $20 each. All proceeds go to Relay for Life.
