Women in World Cuisine, a Lexington Women Chefs Dinner Series

Lexington’s Women Chefs Dinner Series continues with a “Women in World Cuisine” dinner at Brasabana, 841 Lane Allen Road, Tuesday, July 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. The six-course dining event, which focuses on global cuisine, is the fourth in the series highlighting the talents of women chefs in the area. A portion of the proceeds from the dinner will be donated to the Children’s Advocacy Center of the Bluegrass, a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing trauma for child victims of sexual abuse. Burlesque Performer Training

Are you interested in becoming a burlesque performer? Do you have a strong affinity for theatricality and glamour and all things Oh-La-La!? Well, you've come to the right place!

Learn the basics of burlesque performance from award-winning professionals in sixteen 2 hour classes that provide all the skills you will need to create a marketable stage identity, successful acts and glamorous costumes, all while gaining confidence and poise, expressing sensuality and creativity, and having fun! This course is also VERY beneficial for pole dancers/athletes, exotic dancers, and aerialists as it will help to expand your floor work skills while helping to give your performances a theatrical edge that audiences, booking agents and producers crave!

The first hour of class is comprised of lectures and demonstrations while the second hour of class is in the format of a traditional dance class, referred to as “theory” and “movement.”

Required materials:
-The Burlesque Handbook by Jo Weldon (hardcopy or digital acceptable)
-A pen and notebook for notes.
-Ballet slippers, jazz, or contemporary dance shoes of your choice.
-Please dress in form-fitting stretchy clothing that will be appropriate for moving around!

Choose from three time slots:
Tuesdays 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM
Tuesdays 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Tuesdays 8:30 PM to 10:30 PM

$480 for sixteen classes, $250 for eight classes, $130 for four classes, or $35 drop-in. Tuition assistance is available for those who qualify.

Prestonsburg High School Freshmen Orientation and Open House

Prestonsburg High School will be holding Freshmen Orientation and Open House on Monday July 21st from 5:00pm to 7:00pm for incoming freshmen last name A-J and Tuesday July 22nd from 5:00pm to 7:00pm last name K-Z. Parents will receive the mandatory Laptop training and gain information on the Freshmen One to One Digital Conversion during this time. This training along with a $30.00 fee is required before your child is eligible to receive their free laptop. Students will receive their schedules, tour the school and gain valuable information for the upcoming school year. Refreshments will be served.

Scholarships are available upon request with income eligibility provided. At the time of registration new participants must provide proof of age and scholarship applicants must provide income eligibility information unless previously submitted in 2013. Payment is also due at the time of registration. Registrations are accepted by mail-in, drop-off and on-line. Drop-off registrations are accepted during regular business hours.
