2014 Appalachian Christmas Artisan Fair
Nov 22, 2014 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
UPIKE Gymnasium (downtown Pikeville near the intersection of Bank and Elm Streets)
Sustainable Pike County announces its 2nd Annual Appalachian Christmas Craft Fair for Saturday, November 22, from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the University of Pikeville Gymnasium in downtown Pikeville. The event will feature only locally craftspeople and artists. The fair is designed to provide a venue for local artisans to sell their products. Donations of $1.00 at the door will gladly be taken to support Sustainable Pike County's continuing mission of creating opportunities for local businesses that showcase the enormous talent of local vendors.
This year’s event has moved to a larger location to accommodate more vendors and attendees. The inaugural fair held in 2013 was held at the Pike County Extension Office and featured over 30 vendors, with over 500 individuals attending the event.
“We are excited for this year’s event, that promises to be bigger and better than last year’s event. As soon as the event ended last year, we had vendors and attendees asking about next year’s event. Our vendors were pleased with the event and the response from customers, so with demand comes growth, and we hope that this year’s event will again help local people and the local economy. This year’s event proves the importance of supporting the local economy. We have dozens of vendors that we be featured and that means that all those dollars stay in our local economy. The crafts are hand-made and are not manufactured items from outside the area. This is truly a unique that we hope strengthens are local economy,” said Fair Coordinator, Kelly Scott.
The variety of crafts and other products to be featured at the event will highlight the creativity of local artisans and will also provide a sampling of baked goods and local holiday entertainment from local bands and artists, and will include pictures with Santa Claus.
For vendors wanting to participate, please contact Kelly Scott at (606) 432-8966 or visit the Eventbrite Registration page at http://goo.gl/pDiHxy or visit the Sustainable Pike County Facebook page for the link to register.

Come see what’s new at the 11th Annual Blooming Bardstown Garden Tour and Marketplace being held June 7, 2014 in Bardstown, KY. Six fabulous private gardens and a walking tour of downtown Bardstown gardens are on this year’s self-guided tour that runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine. Ponds with peaceful waterfalls, vegetable gardens, creative outdoor “rooms,” container gardening, sun and shade gardens, and comfortable outdoor dining areas are included on this year’s tour of selected gardens in Bardstown and Nelson County. There will also be such features as pergolas, rain barrels, ornamental grasses, multi-level decks, wooded paths and enough garden art to keep you smiling all day. Local artists will be creating their artwork in each garden. Also on the tour will be a demonstration garden at the Nelson County Extension Office, 317 S. Third, which is where the tour begins.
The Marketplace will be open at the Extension Office from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The purchase of a tour ticket is not necessary to enjoy the events taking place at the Marketplace. Visitors can purchase garden tour tickets, grab a bite to eat, sign up for the door prize and check out informational exhibits on garden related topics. Guests will be able to submit their bids in the silent auction. Items available for bid in the silent auction include three one-hour plane rides for up to three people, a one-night stay for eight at the Bernheim Lake House, a barrelhead clock, three bird baths, garden shears, gift baskets from the local distilleries, handcrafted garden art, plenty of gift certificates from generous contributors, tickets to various Kentucky attractions and much, much more. Also included in this year’s auction is the day lily that the Master Gardeners had created and named for Officer Jason Ellis who was shot and killed in the line of duty last May. Proceeds from the winning bid on the day lily will go to the Ellis family.
Local vendors will offer one-of-a-kind antiques and handmade, recycled and unique garden items for sale in addition to salsas, soaps and services. The Kentucky Home Master Gardeners, who sponsor the event, will be selling annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs, houseplants, and flower seeds at the Marketplace. They will also be selling hand-crafted items for the garden such as birdhouses, birdbaths, stepping stones, and uniquely planted containers along with gardening magazines and books and wonderfully creative yard art. In addition, local artists will be selling their garden-inspired artwork.
Tour tickets are $8 in advance, $10 day-of-tour and $7 for groups of 10 or more at the Extension Office at 317 S. Third and the Tourist Commission at One Court Square in Bardstown, KY.
