City Barbeque presents BBQ 101 and Local Beer Tasting Event

This will be a fun filled night where folks can learn from City Barbeque’s founder and national award winning competition barbeque pit boss, Rick Malir. Topics will include judging barbeque, backyard competition smoker tips, and time for some Q&A with seasoned barbeque experts. The highlight being the opportunity to sample and judge some “out of this world” beef brisket, ribs, burnt ends, pork shoulder, and Oh – did we mention sampling some great local beers? You will get 6 beer samples per ticket.
Looking to purchase a smoker of your own? We will have Housewarming of Lexington on site to answer all your questions and provide a Green Egg demonstration.

Sam's Club National BBQ Tour Schedule

The Sam’s Club National BBQ Tour is bringing the heat and smoke to Lexington, KY on June 21. Local barbecue enthusiasts are invited to join Pitmaster Michael McDearman, for an afternoon of free backyard barbecue demos and samples while competition teams cook for cash prizes and top recognitions.
The Sam’s Club National BBQ Tour is the largest and richest tournament in the history of competition barbecue. In 2014, over 700 teams will compete for $500,000 in prize money, across 31 competitions nationwide.

Appalachian Food Summit: A Celebration of Our Appalachian Food Heritage

The first annual Appalachian Food Summit: A Celebration of Our Appalachian Food Heritage will take place Sunday, May 18th from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Hindman Settlement School in Hindman, Kentucky.
This multi-state gathering, the first of its kind, is bringing together authors, chefs, farmers, advocates, scholars and consumers dedicated to preserving traditional Appalachian foodways and supporting a future where farming, local food and culinary tourism are part of economic development in the region.
The Summit will include a program with keynote presentations by notable heirloom seed saver Bill Best and award-winning documentary filmmaker Jamie Ross, a book signing with Appalachian cookbook authors, an oral history booth where participants can share their Appalachian food memories and an information fair featuring regional food and farm organizations.
