Norris, Tennessee
NORRIS, Tennessee: The best Bluegrass, Gospel and Old-Time music in the South will resonate across the beautiful grounds of the Museum of Appalachia, this coming October 10-12th.

This year’s line-up includes over 70 national, regional and local musicians, performing on five unique outdoor stages, throughout the pastoral Museum setting. In celebration of 35 years of this award winning festival, organizers have put together the strongest lineup in event history, including Grammy award winner and multi-talented, Marty Raybon and Full Circle; International Bluegrass Music Association male vocalist of the year, Junior Sisk & Ramblers Choice; Jeff Brown & Still Lonesome; Grammy nominated Della Mae; “Entertainers of the Year” and “Vocal Group of the Year”, The Gibson Brothers; and the multi-award winning group, Lonesome River Band.

Appearing again this year are Grammy nominated, Blue Highway; Broadcaster of the Year, Chris Jones and the Night Drivers; the award winning Darrell Webb Band; the highly recognized Blue Moon Rising, a top 10 Bluegrass album holder; Grits & Soul, Jesse Gregory & Faultline, and the legendary Paul Williams and the Victory Trio. Joining these top artists is one of the most successful bluegrass bands of all time, seven time International Bluegrass Music Association “Vocal Group of the Year” with multiple Grammy and Dove award nominations and IBMA Hall of Fame inductee, Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver.

Perennial favorites back at Homecoming this year are Leroy Troy, Ramona Jones, The Dismembered Tennesseans, Daniel Rothwell and his grandfather, legendary buck dancer, Thomas Maupin, The Stewart Family, Dale Jett of the Carter Family, Russ & Becky Jeffers, and Jimbo Whaley and Greenbriar. Scores of additional musicians will perform all day, each day, over the course of this three day event.

Tennessee Fall Homecoming, much more than a music festival, includes historic demonstrations such as spinning, weaving, sorghum making, blacksmithing and sawmilling; with heritage arts and crafts such as tatting, whittling, lye soap making, leather working and hand crafted white oak baskets. Tour the entire Museum of Appalachia complex, feast on fine Southern fare and Appalachian delights, and take the opportunity to meet regionally and nationally known Southern writers.

Red Barn Radio Welcomes Emmanuel Ridge

ArtsPlace, 161 N Mill St., Lexington, KY 40507
RED BARN RADIO WELCOMES EMMANUEL RIDGE 09/03 AT 8 PM
Emmanuel Ridge We are all about simple. Simple music
with a simple message. We are about our home in the
middle of nowhere Kentucky. Small town America. A place
where the Little White Church still exists. Somewhere
that Saturday evening on the front porch with the radio
playing in the background is what you work for all week.
Where the preacher still comes to visit on Sunday
afternoon for dinner and the Bible is still the most
important book in the house. Emmanuel Ridge is a state
of mind as much as it is a place or even a group. When
you take God, the Bible, and Faith out of the home, you
remove hope. You remove appreciation for what really
matters.

Organ Rock Star: Cameron Carpenter Student Matinee

The Norton Center for the Arts, Danville, KY
As the first organist ever nominated for a Grammy Award for a solo album, Cameron Carpenter is breaking boundaries in new music. He is a virtuoso composer-performer whose approach to the organ is virtually unprecedented, with a history of collaborations with jazz and pop artists that is more diverse than any other organist. As a keyboard prodigy, he performed Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier at age 11 and now holds a Master’s Degree from The Julliard School. Cameron’s goals are anything but modest: the brash, outspoken and phenomenally talented musician and composer wants the organ recognized as a premier recital instrument on par with violins and pianos. As with most trailblazers, Carpenter has energy and vision equal to his talent and a knack for engaging audiences that simply underscore his commitment and passion for his work.

Cameron will perform a mixed repertoire of traditional classical music, original compositions and arrangements, and other selected works on the Norton Center’s very own pipe organ as well as on his newly created International Touring Organ.

Grade Recommendation: Elementary, Middle & High School

Cameron Carpenter

The Norton Center for the Arts, Danville, KY
As the first organist ever nominated for a Grammy® Award for a solo album, Cameron Carpenter is shattering boundaries in new music. He is a virtuoso composer-performer whose approach to the organ is virtually unprecedented, and his repertoire—from the complete works of J. S. Bach and Cesar Franck to his hundreds of transcriptions of non-organ works, his original compositions and his collaborations with jazz and pop artists— is perhaps the largest and most diverse of any organist. As a keyboard prodigy, he performed Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier at age 11 and now holds a Master’s Degree from The Juilliard School. Cameron’s goals are anything but modest: the brash, outspoken and phenomenally talented musician and composer wants the organ recognized as a premier recital instrument on par with violins and pianos. ZZ Top

The Norton Center for the Arts, Danville, KY
The sharp-dressed men of legendary rock band ZZ Top are bringing their signature mix of Southern rock, blues and boogie, to the Norton Center this fall. Guitarist Billy F. Gibbons, bassist Dusty Hill and drummer Frank Beard are currently touring the country in support of their first studio album in nine years, La Futura. ZZ TOP’s music is always instantly recognizable, eminently powerful, profoundly soulful, and 100% Texas American in derivation. They’ve been thrilling audiences since the group’s inception in 1969 and can lay the undisputed claim to being the longest running major rock band with original members intact. Their unmistakable sound and attitude have garnered them legions of fans and cemented their status as cultural icons with popular hits including, “Sharp Dressed Man,” “La Grange,” “Legs,” “Gimme All your Lovin’,” and “Tube Snake Boogie.” These Rock and Roll Hall of Famers have sold millions of records over the course of their career, have been officially designated as Heroes of The State of Texas, have been referenced in countless cartoons and sitcoms and are true rock icons but, against all odds, they’re really just doing what they’ve always done. They’re real and they’re surreal and they’re ZZ Top.

Brother's Keeper has played music together for years,
but not under this official band name. MBK was raised on
the genres of Folk, Bluegrass, and Gospel, so the
growing popularity of Folk music, lead by bands such as
Mumford and Sons and the Lumineers, only opened a door
for MBK to take the music they love to eager audiences.
However, MBK does not limit themselves musically,
influenced by bands of many different genres and
backgrounds. MBK strives to seek inspiration anywhere
and use it in an original manner. MBK consists of
brothers Benjamin, Titus, and Joshua Luckhaupt on
guitar, mandolin, and fiddle respectively. Wyatt
"Sawmill" Murray completes this ensemble on the upright
bass. With original music that draws inspiration from
Bluegrass, Rock and everything in between, MBK strives
to be unique as well as listenable. MBK features tight,
four part harmonies, rock driven lead vocals, blazing
solos, and complex and interlaced musical interludes. In
an effort to be unique and open minded, and bring a
fresh blend of Bluegrass to new audiences, My Brother's
Keeper has presented itself as one of the fastest rising
Bluegrass bands on the scene of Cincinnati music.
