Every May, the Down to Earth Garden Club, a non-profit group, holds its annual plant sale community fundraiser. The plants are from the members' own gardens, so they are knowledgeable about their characteristics and landscape potential. This event will be rain or shine, offering plants for shade or sun, Natives, Herbs, Fruits, Vegetables, Perennials, Wildflowers, Grasses, Hostas, Shrubs, Trees, Annuals, Container Gardens, Succulents, Irises, Decorative Containers and Gardening Books. Mountain Backpacking Adventure

Our guided, overnight backpacking adventure is designed for those with minimal backcountry experience who wish to give backpacking a try. We’ll provide all primary gear (pack, sleeping bag, pad, tent, cooking supplies) and teach you the basics of adventure backpacking in the scenic mountains of Southeastern Kentucky.
Topics of instruction include:
How to plan an overnight backpacking trip, gear selection/proper loading of a backpack, minimum impact Leave No Trace camping techniques, how to select a suitable backcountry campsite, tips for assuring successful hiking/backpacking/camping experiences.
The weekend package fee is $45 per person. The outing is rated “easy” as backpacking trips go. Participants must be 12 years or older and able to complete a round-trip hiking excursion of 8-10 miles, with an elevation change of up to 200 feet, carrying an average pack weight of 25-28 pounds (minimum pack weight is 20 pounds). Participants 17 or under must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Advanced registration is required. A minimum of 5 participants is required to conduct the activity (additional participants that supply their own gear may be accepted at a reduced fee). Registrants will receive a list of suggested personal items to bring in advance of their trip.
