LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Cloudy skies and a little bit of rain didn't stop Big Blue fans from getting an early glimpse at this year's UK football team.
Fans got to meet coaches and players during the annual UK Fan Day at Commonwealth Stadium on Friday.
“We want to see them all get their autographs and when we cheer them on this season we can say we have met that one before,” said UK fan Melissa Jenkins.
Many fans waited in line for hours for the chance to meet and greet the new UK football team for the first time.
“Today is just the interaction with the players and meets a few of them and see practice and it will be cool to see a new team with a new coaching style,” said John Poff, who traveled from South Carolina for this year’s UK Fan Day.
“I’m anxious to watch Stoops. I think he will bring toughness and speed and I think he's going to boost the morale of not only the fans but the players as well,” said Scottie Hall, whose son used to play football for the Cats.
After several lackluster seasons, some say Stoops has already helped reinvigorate UK’s football program and restore hope in the loyal Cats fans.
“I’m not going to expect too much out of the first year but I expect to see the beginning of greatness,” said Kim Poff, who also traveled from South Carolina to watch the Cats practice.
But for now, the Big Blue Nation will just have to wait and see how great their new team will turn out to be this season.
The event completed the opening week of fall camp for the 2013 Kentucky Wildcats, who reported to fall camp on Sunday, August 4.
Kentucky’s season opener this season is Saturday, Aug. 31 at LP Field in Nashville against Western Kentucky University at 7 p.m. ET.
