Nicholasville Police say a man crashed a stolen truck into an off-duty Jessamine County Sheriff's Deputy's vehicle. The accident happened on December 11 along US 27 near Brannon Crossing. Officer Kevin Grimes of the Nicholasville Police Department says the deputy was concerned about the people in the truck that hit him and got out to make sure they were okay.

"When he identified himself as a sheriff's deputy, the guy yelled something at him, put the gas pedal to the floor, striking the deputy in the side of the body, knocking him into his vehicle," says Grimes.

The deputy wasn't injured. Police say the truck then raced into Brannon Crossing.

"The vehicle was last seen going through Brannon Crossing towards Amstar Cinema at about 75 or 80 miles an hour. The deputy said 'There's no way that I'm going to try to follow this guy in my privately owned vehicle. It would put other lives in danger as they had already done that by their driving and what they'd just done'," says Grimes.

Later that day, Lexington Police found the truck on Southpoint Drive in Fayette County. Once they got a closer look at it, they realized it had been reported stolen in Jessamine County only days earlier, then popped up at a Frankfort gas station. The deputy confirmed that the man in the surveillance footage from the gas station was the driver who hit him. Another man was spotted getting into the truck with that driver. Police say they want to find the men as soon as possible.

"Well, obviously he's got no regard for anybody's safety. He struck a deputy and also driving through neighborhoods and commercial areas at 75-80 miles an hour to flee, would tend to indicate that he might be a danger," says Grimes.

If you recognize the man in the photo, you should contact Nicholasville Police.
