Farmer: More Funding, Staff Needed To Regulate Amusement Rides

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - State Agriculture Commissioner Richie
Farmer says his agency is doing an adequate job handling the
massive tasks but needs more money and staff.

Farmer spoke last night during a televised debate against
Democratic challenger David Lynn Williams of Glasgow.

Williams touted his farming and business background and said he
would look out for the interests of Kentuckians.

Farmer, who is seeking a second term, touted a hay hotline set
up by the Agriculture Department to help livestock producers find
adequate feed supplies after a spring freeze and summer drought
limited hay production and pasture growth.

Farmer added the agency is doing an "adequate" job of
regulating amusement rides and gas pumps, but needs more money and
more people.
