Evarts man killed in car accident

A Saturday morning car accident in Harlan County leaves one man dead.

Justin Coots was heading north on US 119 near Cumberland in his pick-up truck, when police say he crossed the center lane into on-coming traffic. Officers say he struck the back of a coal truck driven by Chad Daniels, who was heading south.

Police say Coots died instantly from injuries suffered in the crash.

When police arrived on the scene, one trooper says Daniels was visibly shaken by the accident.

"He was pretty tore up. I can't speak for what happened to him or what his thoughts are but to me he seemed pretty concerned," said Kentucky State Trooper Jared Boggs.

Boggs says there will be no further investigation into the crash.

Coots, who is from Evarts, was 20 years old.
