A Belgium man locked up in Harlan County for nearly two months after police say he was trying to meet up with a 13 year old girl is free tonight.

19 year old Kris Asnong was released from the Harlan County Jail Tuesday. Police say Asnong traveled from Belgium to Harlan after talking with the girl online. A grand jury found no evidence Asnong tried to have sex with the 13 year old. Tuesday, the girl and her mother testified before the grand jury in favor of Asnong.

"They thought this was a youthful mistake, something misunderstood in its intentions. They didn't want to see any kind of criminal penalty imposed," said Commonwealth Attorney Henry Johnson.

Since the grand jury did not indict Asnong, his charges are dropped and he can now go back to Belgium.
