Football season in the mountains is already underway, but starting in february Kentuckians will have another team to root for, the Eastern Kentucky Drillers.

Team officials met Friday to discuss what their plans are for the arena football team that is coming to Pikeville.

It's a growing sport in the state of Kentucky.

Says David Jones, a former UK standout, Pike County native and now Eastern Kentucky Driller.

Excitement filled the Expo Center in Pikeville as community members, city officials and even prospective players listened in on what team officials had to say.

"We want to be in elementary schools. We want to be in pre-schools. We want to be in high schools. We want to be in college and everything is right here in Pikeville for us to be able to do that." Says Rick Kranz, the President of the Eastern Kentucky Drillers.

"We've got Pikeville College here, we've got some great players now that are going to come graduate in December, they have another semester of school be looking to play football and want something to do we'll provide that opportunity and chance to do that." Says Lance Brown, the head coach of the Drillers.

They say with reasonable ticket prices, specials and a family-like atmosphere they'll be able to provide a source of entertainment for the area without drastically impacting their budgets.

And with former UK football player and Belfry Pirate David Jones on the team, the Eastern Kentucky Drillers say they will be force to be reckoned with.

"Championships, I've got like six rings, I'm counting on getting more. that's what you play for to win championships" Says Jones.

Their confidence is high and people in the area are very excited to see what's in store for this team.

The Eastern Kentucky Drillers first game is on February 18th.

Their schedule won't be released until sometime next week.

Tickets cost between seven and 25 dollars.
