Breast Cancer Awareness Event

The Hazard - Perry County Cancer Coalition is trying to spread awareness of breast cancer by hosting a contest called "Paint Perry Pink."

"Decorate their store front, their lobbies in pink, to remind women they need to do breast self exams," says Coalition member Candy Combs.
"You need to get those mammograms."

Primary Care Centers in Hazard is one of more than a dozen businesses participating but for some of the employees the message of saving a life is very personal.

"I lost my mother at a very early age to breast cancer," says Charla Napier. "For that reason I am passionate about getting the awareness out there."
Staff and students at Perry County Central High School adorned their doors with pink ribbons in honor of two staff members who are breast cancer survivors.

"Teenagers, that's our next group of leaders and educating them is extremely important, not only academically but socially as well," says Perry County Central High School Principal Estill Neace.

A pink elephant is on the window of the Mountain Community Hospice as a reminder to never forget breast cancer screenings.
