Fletcher Touts His Record In Improving Health Care, Education

RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Gubernatorial front-runner Steve
Beshear is using his last few days of campaign time to push a plan
to provide medical coverage to children.

Beshear, the Democrats nominee, made a swing yesterday through
western Kentucky, a traditional Democratic stronghold.

With less than a week remaining before Election Day, Beshear has
amassed a double-digit lead over Fletcher in recent polls by news
organizations. Beshear urged supporters not to assume he has
Tuesday's election in the bag during a stop at the Logan County
Courthouse in Russellville.

Fletcher, meanwhile, touted his accomplishments during campaign
stops in central Kentucky.

The governor said Kentucky's Medicaid system has become a
national model, speaking to about 70 supporters in Winchester
yesterday.
