New Fire Department To Be Built, Benefit Eastern Kentuckians

Firemen broke ground on a new W.R. Castle Fire and Rescue building Wednesday along Route 1559 in Johnson County.

County officials say the new department will reduce insurance premiums for about 200 nearby homes because firemen will be closer if there is a fire. W.R. Castle volunteers say the homeowners pay a county fire fee, so they wanted to put a fire department near them.

“This is time for them to receive some benefit in that because as long as their insurance premiums are high, they're not getting any benefit from that investment, so it's time to turn that money back to those folks,” says Brian Jeffiers, W.R. Castle Assistant Fire Chief.

Bill and Scott McCloud donated the land. Officials believe they can build and open it in just two months.
