Pikeville, KY- The Kentucky State Police began making drug arrests across Pike and Floyd Counties. Eleven people have been indicted in Federal Court on numerous charges as a result of 18 months of investigations into a multi state drug trafficking operation. Detectives from the KSP Drug Enforcement Special Investigations section along with local Troopers began making arrests at 7:00 am.
The charges revolve around trafficking in various prescription pills, cocaine and methadone. Those arrested today were taken to the Federal Courthouse in Pikeville. Other federal indictments are expected in connection with this investigation.
Throughout this investigation, the Kentucky State Police worked with the FBI, DEA, Operation UNITE and Appalachian HIDTA. Captain Leslie Gannon said, “ The Kentucky State Police continually work with local and federal agencies to enhance our efforts to keep illicit prescription drugs out of our communities. Although our efforts reduce crime in Eastern Kentucky we still need the help of our citizens to rid our community of drug traffickers.” The public can assist by providing tips to the KSP by contacting their local state police posts or by calling 1-800-DOPE-TIP.
