Operation Christmas Child is collecting stuffed animals, school supplies, and slinkies to give to children in need around the world.

Last year, the program sent more than seven million shoe boxes full of goodies to Jamaica, Russia, Cambodia and more sharing the joy of Christmas.

Volunteers worked all evening loading and sealing boxes to send to children in need across the globe.

“Everybody helps in their own way whether it's volunteering here or bringing in donated items or just praying for us that are working down here this week, “ says Kristi Skeens with Operation Christmas Child.

Operation Christmas Child is the perfect opportunity to teach children to think of those in need. Last year, one teen donated her entire collection of beanie babies.

“We had almost 200 beanie babies that she donated herself and it was able to go into shoe boxes,” says Lee Adams of Operation Christmas Child.

With each box, children receive a booklet entitled "The Greatest Gift of All" teaching children about the gospel. The booklet is translated into 72 languages.

“Sharing the love of Jesus Christ and just by sending a child a shoe box that has never really gotten anything in their life, I just thing it's a great impact,” says Skeens.

Volunteers hope to fill this 53 foot truck with toys for children around the world and right here in the United States.

While most shoe boxes are sent overseas, some boxes are sent to American Indian reservations or children of disasters, like Hurricane Katrina.

“You can see the whole table full of shoe boxes, just imagine children holding those shoe boxes,” says Adams.

The last day for donation in Whitesburg is Monday November 19th.
